Nadia El Nakla, Humza Yousaf’s wife, is no stranger to politics.

Ms El Nakla, 39, who married Mr Yousaf in 2019, has been at the new Scottish First Minister’s side this week, posing for pictures outside Bute House, in Charlotte Square in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

She became SNP councilor for the West Finish of Dundee last year, the first minority ethnic candidate to be elected in the city.

She said at that point: “I really need to take this time in the next five years to invest in women and get them into politics because in the Broughty Ship ward I don’t think we’ve ever seen a female councilor in I don’t have any idea how long.”Ms El Nakla, whose father is Palestinian, previously stood in the 2021 Holyrood election for the SNP in North-East Scotland yet didn’t succeed.

Aamer Anwar, the couple’s legal advisor, was cited in The Gatekeeper as saying: “The nursery has acknowledged changes were expected to make the admissions process more ‘transparent and impartial’ and that is the very least any young child is entitled to expect from an educational establishment in Scotland, no matter who their parent is or whatever their experience.

“Nadia believes that as a mother she was justified in raising this lawful action, she felt profoundly hurt and hopes that as a result real change will occur.”

Ms El Nakla also has a more established daughter from a previous relationship.

Humza Yousaf was fast to hail his wife as his “compass” during his victory speech as Scotland’s new first minister.

But on the other hand she’s a well-associated SNP politician by her own doing in Dundee.

Marriage to Humza Yousaf!

Mr Yousaf and Ms El-Nakla tied the knot in 2019. The SNP leader, who is a Glasgow MSP, moved to Dundee five years prior so they could stay together.

El-Nakla’s Political Career!

A longtime SNP activist, Ms El-Nakla was a psychotherapist before she formally entered politics.

She worked as a caseworker for veteran Dundee MSP Shona Robison, who is now Mr Yousaf’s No2 as delegate first minister and money chief. Ms El-Nakla stood as a candidate for the SNP in the 2021 Holyrood election, however was unsuccessful.

She was elected as a councilor in Dundee’s West End ward the next year as her party recovered their majority in the city.

In February, she joined her neighborhood SNP colleagues in support a controversial 4.75% gathering tax hike.

Opposition parties were left irate after her party, drove by Councilor John Alexander, approved a pile of cuts in their financial plan.

During her time in office, Ms El-Nakla has also been strongly outspoken against racism and last year she denounced locals who unveiled a White Lives Matter pennant.

The Dundee councilor went to school in Monifieth, Angus, where she raised cash to help refugees escaping battle in Kosovo.

In 2021, Ms El-Nakla told how she was “sick with worry” for her brother and young relatives living in Gaza as violence in the Palestinian territory worsened.

The first minister’s wife consistently visited her father’s home country to visit family when she was younger, yet she had stopped visiting because of the contention with Israel.
