From creating the best AI writing apps, the music streaming giant Spotify’s new AI DJ, to Microsoft coming out with the all new Bing AI, human beings are exhibiting their craze with AI in all the sectors of tech possible.
Alongside the big brands, social media too, seems to be a part of this race now. This is simply because Snapchat is the first among the social networking sites to join the race as it has launched its own AI chatbot- “My AI” for the first time ever.

What is Snapchat’s new “My AI” chatbot?
The new Snapchat chatbot, dubbed “My AI,” is intended to bring artificial intelligence to social media. This chatbot functions as a conversation buddy. Users of Snapchat can discuss a number of topics with the new AI chatbot. It does, however, have additional qualities that gives it more strength.
Based on OpenAI’s GPT technology, Snapchat My AI most likely makes use of the GPT 3.5 language model. Since it uses the same technology as other ChatGPT-like apps, it functions in a similar manner. Snapchat does, however, note that the user’s interactions with the AI may improve as time goes on. So, in a sense, the chatbot changes as you talk to it.
Also, Snapchat advises against discussing your personal problems with My AI. The app will assess the feature and work to improve it using messages that users send to the chatbot. Hence, if you don’t want a random engineer to be aware of the issues of your life, we advise keeping them to yourself.
However, Snapchat cautions that even while the function shouldn’t say anything damaging or inappropriate, it occasionally does. Holding down the message will submit it right away for feedback if you receive one that doesn’t look right. Responses shouldn’t be graphic or contain profanity because my AI was created in accordance with Snapchat’s safety standards and terms of service. Don’t ask it who to vote for because it also won’t offer political commentary.
The “My AI” feature comes into play because it is intended for each user’s exclusive use. Even the chatbot’s name and appearance can be customized.

Who’s eligible to use the new Snapchat Chatbot?
Currently, the all new AI feature will only be accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers. This week, “My AI” will start to show up for premium customers (February 28). As it is merely experimental, it’s likely that it won’t be made available to more people if the response is negative.
CEO Evan Spiegel, however, stated to The Verge that they eventually want it to be available to all the Snapchat users- “The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day.”
For now, everyone who is enthusiastic about the idea, can pay for Snapchat+ and receive My AI before the end of the week. It’s generally preferable to wait a bit and observe how it plays out. But if you’re overly excited, you can always take the subscription.

How to use this new feature?
As said earlier, only Snapchat Plus subscribers in the US can currently access the new Snapchat AI chatbot as an experimental feature. Snapchat+ subscriptions start at $3.99 per month for users. Other country Snapchat users will have to wait as the business gradually opens up access to everyone. Although we don’t yet have a firm date for this, access should be allowed as Snapchat’s “My AI” gains credibility.
You don’t need to explicitly enable the My AI mode; it is enabled by default. To access the chat screen in the Snapchat app, simply swipe right from the “Camera” tab to access the “Chat” tab and try it out. Nonetheless, you can always disable the chatbot if you’re one of the users who doesn’t want to use Snapchat My AI. You can remove it totally or just unpin its chat. Go to your Snapchat+ control screen to unpin the chatbot from your chat screen. To unpin it, turn off the “My AI” option there.
