Everybody is anticipating Rihanna. Sure, to drop an album and give a paparazzi stroll that would make headlines, but also to show up at her own event.
The musician-turned-mogul arrived to the Tobacco Dock debut of Fenty X Puma’s newest release—an earthen brown creeper shoe—more than five hours late last night. (Of course, this is the same woman who showed up to the 2023 Met Gala after a real cockroach and who arranges for 3:26 a.m. cover interviews.)
However, this is exactly the kind of superstar behavior you would anticipate—indeed, desire—from Rihanna, one of the few celebrities who can voluntarily leave a phalanx of the British press withering under fluorescent lights. (If there is one thing religion has taught humanity, it is to suffer for their heroes.) But beyond just being in her own time zone, there might have been a more valid explanation for Rihanna’s tardiness.
On the red carpet last night, she told Vogue, “I love making music in London.” My favorite activity to do here is that. It’s strange, but I feel that London gives me the freedom to embrace self-discoveries and makes me feel like everything is possible. Boundaries don’t exist. I’m not sure why, but this is where I’ve always created my best music, or at least chosen the course for my albums.
