Cookie Cohen, who runs the account @YouBelonginThis, dreams up high-end ensembles that she thinks the singer should wear
Taylor Swift’s most recent evening in London was met with ecstasy among fans. However, one Swiftie was particularly delighted to observe the singer emerge from the club in a Vivienne Westwood skirt suit on Monday.
Cookie Cohen, 27, established an Instagram account named @YouBelonginThis in May 2023. On the platform, she conceptualizes high-fashion ensembles that she believes the “Cruel Summer” star should wear. The page includes altered images of Taylor Swift wearing outfits designed by prestigious labels such as Schiaparelli, Jacquemus, and Acne Studio, among others.
Cohen informs that she is not a professional stylist; however, she remains informed about runway fashion. The account was initiated after she observed numerous ensembles that she believed would complement Swift exceptionally well.
“I would just be like, ‘Oh, this is very Taylor,’ ” the New Yorker recalls. When she would see the Grammy winner in photos, Cohen couldn’t help but dream about putting her own twist on the outfits. She started superimposing on-trend attire on to snaps of Swift on the red carpet or out and about.
Cohen’s personal vision consisted of a matching skirt and jacket, which he coupled with chunky ruby pumps and knee-high socks (as styled for Vivienne Westwood’s autumn collection lookbook). This week, the celebrity wore white socks under pistachio-hued platform Mary Jane heels from Sézane.
Cohen received a flood of Instagram DMs from her 21,800 followers on Swift’s London outfit. “They were like, ‘Cookie, look, she’s wearing your outfit!'” remembers the admirer. “I was bugging out.”
An incredible coincidence—or was it? Cohen didn’t think she influenced Swift’s approach at first. As she thought about it, she assumed her content may have reached Swift’s close circle, if not Swift herself, she tells.
“It’s either like the weirdest coincidence ever, or she was bored on her flight to London and was checking out the account, because we know she has eyes everywhere,” says Cohen.
Cohen believes that a nod to Swift’s styling page is not too far from the sphere of possibilities, as she is known for communicating with her followers through easter eggs revealed in songs, interviews, and fashion choices.
“I just love how she interacts with her fans with these codes,” she says of Swift. If this was a shoutout to the Instagram account, Cohen adds, “She decided to send a message to me and her fans that she sees us and what we’re doing and appreciates it. It’s so cool to have an outlet that the community supports and that she sees and supports!”
“I’m very proud of myself, because it means that I know what she would wear. I’m not putting what I would wear on her, I’m putting what she would wear on her,” Cohen tells PEOPLE. “It’s really out of love. I’m a Swiftie first, and a fashion girly second.”
