Spinal Tap 2 Release Date Finally Revealed: Is This Really the End… or Just Another Comeback?

It was never meant to happen.

For a long time, director Rob Reiner said that This Is Spinal Tap will only be a cult classic once. No second part. No restart. There will be no half-hearted reunion tour. The timeless splendour of one of rock’s loudest and most absurd fictional bands echoes through pop culture’s amplifier cranked to 11.

But as the rumours spread and the years went by, something started to happen.

People still used memes to make fun of Nigel Tufnel’s riffs. David St. Hubbins’ strange ideas became popular on TikTok. The “bass face” of Derek Smalls established a mood for a whole generation. The band that began out as a joke had suddenly become real to us.

And now?

They’re back.

Spinal Tap 2 Release Date: Mark Your Calendars

The famous band is getting back together. Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues will come out in U.S. theatres on September 12, 2025.

Spinal Tap 2 Release Date

Bleecker Street, an independent film studio known for supporting odd, character-driven films, will distribute the movie in the U.S. Sony Pictures is in charge of international distribution, so Spinal Tap’s craziness will be seen by people all around the world.

The amps will be turned up no matter where you are, whether L.A. or London. Way up.

The Cast Is Loud, Proud, and Still Slightly Confused

Thank goodness the holy trio of chaos is still there:

  • Christopher Guest is back as Nigel Tufnel, who is still confused about amps, bread sizes, and the secrets of Stonehenge.
  • Michael McKean puts on the headband of David St. Hubbins again.
  • Even though Harry Shearer and Spinal Tap royalty have had public fights in the past, he is back as the sad Derek Smalls.

Fran Drescher is back as the wonderfully strident Bobbi Flekman. And if that isn’t crazy enough, be ready for Paul McCartney, Elton John, Garth Brooks, and Questlove to show there.

How do they fit in? We won’t give it away. But let’s just say that one of them rides on the world’s most boring tour bus.

Watch the Trailer: This One Still Goes to 11

The trailer starts with a sound you would recognise: the slow hum of an amp. Then, things went wrong.

“What are we doing?” Nigel yells because he doesn’t understand a Zoom call. “A reunion? Who passed away?

Cue up slow-motion clips of rehearsal failures, nostalgic callbacks, and a last shot of Di Bergi whispering:

“This time, it’s personal.”

Fans React: “PUT IT IN MY VEINS”

Fans of all ages went crazy on Twitter and Reddit as soon as the Spinal Tap 2 release date was announced. Nostalgia hit like a power chord, and the excitement was at an all-time high.

No matter if you’re a die-hard fan who grew up quoting “these go to 11” or a new fan who just found out about the craziness of little Stonehenges, one thing is for sure: the Tap craze is back.

What’s the Plot of Spinal Tap 2?

The band had to get back together after fifteen years since their manager died and left them with a contract they can’t get out of.

Old grudges come back. New egos come out. And Marty Di Bergi, who is still shooting everything, wonders if anyone has truly learnt anything since 1984.

Expect a mix of planned chaos and spontaneous brilliance, with Reiner saying that “the heart of Spinal Tap has always been in its absurd honesty.”

It seems like Inal Tap 2 was never going to happen, but now that it is, it seems like it had to happen.

There are a lot of remakes and reboots out there, but this one dares to turn the volume up even further. Is it a feeling of nostalgia? Is it crazy? Or is it… smart?
