The skies was unusually silent the day Chris Smith, Peacemaker, vanished.
Not into thin air, but into something even stranger: a gap between dimensions.
It’s been more than two years since James Gunn’s blood-soaked, emotionally twisted Peacemaker season one left viewers with more questions than answers. The Butterfly Conspiracy. A terrible violation of confidence. A hero who is too shattered to understand what redemption looks like. And then the radio went silent.
Until now.
The buzz began as a whisper. Photos were leaked. Deleted tweets. Then the trailer dropped, and the fanbase went insane. Not only has Peacemaker returned, but he is no longer alone. He’s confronting himself.
Let’s go over everything we know about Peacemaker Season 2—and why it might be the most personal conflict the DC Universe has ever seen.
Peacemaker Season 2 Release Date
Mark your calendars for August 21, 2025. Peacemaker Season 2 will officially arrive at Max (previously HBO Max) with all guns blazing.
Max, Warner Bros. Discovery’s relaunched streaming platform, will release the series as part of its ongoing commitment to creative, character-driven DCU storytelling.

The harsh, nearly six-month shoot at Trilith Studios in Atlanta concluded in November 2024. Despite his new post as co-head of DC Studios and his extensive work on Superman (which will be released immediately before Peacemaker S2), James Gunn directed three episodes himself.
The subsequent episodes were directed by Greg Mottola (Superbad), Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones, who kept Gunn’s chaotic-but-heartfelt tone intact.
The Multiverse is Bleeding: What’s the Plot?
“The only thing worse than facing your demons… is facing another version of you who never stopped being one.”
Season 2 begins one month after the events of Superman (2025), with Peacemaker stumbling through an alternate reality that he accidently cracked open.

In this realm, he discovers another version of himself—one who has not lost his father and has never questioned the purpose. A version that enjoys the killing.
Rick Flag Sr. (played by Frank Grillo) adds fuel to the cosmic fire, a man with unfinished business and a bloody vendetta. If you thought Peacemaker’s daddy issues were over with Auggie Smith’s ghostly glares, think again.
“We’re not just punching Nazis anymore,” said Gunn during a surprise Comic-Con panel. “We’re punching fate, legacy, and all the lies we tell ourselves to sleep at night.”
Cast and Chaos: Who’s Back (and Who’s Watching)?
John Cena returns as the titular character, shredded and soul-searching.
Danielle Brooks reprises her role as Leota Adebayo, the Peacemaker’s moral compass and reluctant ally. Freddie Stroma returns as the trigger-happy, ever-loyal Vigilante, while Jennifer Holland (Emilia Harcourt) and Steve Agee (John Economos) round out the returning cast.

But this time, it’s more than simply the original team.
New faces include:
- Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, seeks retribution for his fallen son.
- Sol Rodríguez portrays Sasha Bordeaux, a stealthy operative from another universe.
- Tim Meadows plays Langston Fleury, a smiling federal supervisor who may know too much.
- Michael Rooker, Gunn’s longstanding partner, stars as Red St. Wild, a mystery visitor from the bleed between worlds.
And yes, cameos from DCU’s freshly minted heroes—like Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner—are teased.
Watch the Official Trailer
The official trailer wastes no time getting into the action. From high-octane multiverse crashes to devastating emotional interactions, the footage foreshadows a darker, more contemplative season. Set to the ominous tones of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Road to Nowhere,” Peacemaker confronts his doppelgänger, a ghost from his past, and the unknown cost of forgiveness.
Fandom Frenzy: What the Fans Are Saying
The internet nearly imploded the day the trailer dropped. Here’s a taste of what’s happening across the fandom multiverse:

Behind-the-Scenes Shakeups and Delays
Season 2 was originally announced in early 2022, but was nearly delayed by the DCEU/DCU transition, James Gunn’s promotion, and the 2023 writers’ strike. The initial plan called for Gunn to write and direct all episodes. Instead, he wrote the entire arc while sharing directing duties.
Even John Cena’s WWE schedule and Hollywood commitments nearly pushed things back. But Gunn insisted:
“There is no Peacemaker without Cena. “And there is no DCU without chaos.”
FAQ: Peacemaker Season 2
Will Season 2 be linked to Superman (2025)?
Yes. It takes place one month after Superman and has similar narrative DNA.
Is Robert Patrick returning?
Yes, sort of. Auggie Smith arrives as a specter, haunting Peacemaker with his unresolved remorse.
Do any key characters die?
Unconfirmed. However, early leaks indicate that at least one core character will die.
Will there be a season 3?
Gunn has intimated that it will be determined by fan response and Superman’s performance.
Final Shot: Redemption or Ruin?
If Season 1 was about confronting the father’s misdeeds, Season 2 is about defying the future written in blood. With the multiverse shattered and Peacemaker’s soul on the line, only one thing is certain:
This time, preserving the world could cost him everything.
