Zawedde “Zawe” Ashton FRSL is an English actress, narrator, playwright, and director who was born on July 25, 1984. She is most recognised for her roles in the comic dramas Fresh Meat and Not Safe for Work, as well as the Netflix horror movie Velvet Buzzsaw and as Joyce Carol Vincent in Dreams of a Lifetime (2011). Nylon magazine’s Young Hollywood Issue named Ashton one of the “55 faces of the future” in May 2010. Ashton won the Creative Diversity Network Award for Best Breakthrough On-Screen Talent in November 2012 for her portrayal as Vod in the BAFTA-nominated Channel 4 smash Fresh Meat. In 2013, Ashton received a Screen Nation Award for Female Performance in a Film 2012/2013 for her work in Dreams of a Life.
