Combining two beloved sci-fi icons from the 1980s, the Terminator and Robocop, would probably be a huge letdown. The popular T-800 series Terminator and Robocop have never really met on television, despite the fact that this has theoretically been realized in videogames and comics.
With the Robocop (2015) revival failing to achieve the same level of success as its predecessor and the Terminator sequels following Judgement Day all receiving critical acclaim, both franchises are currently struggling to draw in new fans. But there’s no denying that the sight of these two cyborg titans together would create a stir.
The issue with getting Robocop and Terminator to fight is that, given the nature of the two franchises, it makes sense that the result would probably be uninteresting in the long run. Considering the characteristics of each character, the first battle would probably end much sooner than would have been expected.
The outcome of the crossover between Robocop and Terminator, however, would have a significant impact on both series’ futures, and that future would appear particularly terrible. In contrast to earlier high-profile crossovers, such as Godzilla vs. Kong, there probably wouldn’t be any final cooperation to defeat a common foe.
The Robocop Is Far Better Than the T-800
The result of a conflict between these two cybernetic film giants would not thrill fans of the Terminator franchise. Simply viewing both films makes it very evident that Robocop beats the original T-800 in almost every significant manner. Although the T-800 is more mobile, Robocop is more difficult to eliminate on almost all counts.
T-800 was destroyed in a hydraulic press and blasted apart by a pipe bomb during the last battle in James Cameron’s The Terminator. In the meantime, identical circumstances left Robocop largely unharmed. Additionally, he is significantly more resilient to powerful weapons.
The fight between Robocop and the T-800 would be dreadfully one-sided, so the Terminator would be in for a rough time. Robocop is obviously stronger than the T-800, but he battled against it the first time he was forced to battle one, so even the occasionally pitiful and occasionally lethal ED-209 could prove to be too much for the latter.
That being said, the T-800’s own series is possibly its greatest weakness. The Terminator franchise itself has claimed that human nature’s unpredictable nature—which Robocop still maintains and frequently exhibits—is one of the reasons why humanity has survived and been able to outsmart and overcome Skynet’s Terminators.
More Skilled Terminators Might Destroy Robocop
There are innumerable additional machines in the Terminator franchise, even though Robocop would easily defeat a simple T-800. Even though it might be tempting to act as though there are no sequels to Terminator 2, many of the more dangerous machines, like the T-X, which was created expressly to destroy other Terminators and has the capacity to remotely control and hack into other technology, appear in later installments.
Since Robocop is a machine from the future, it seems improbable that it would be able to withstand being compromised by a computer system that is apparently more sophisticated.

Nothing in Robocop’s arsenal would adequately prepare him for a liquid metal machine that could change its body into almost anything. In addition to being far more nimble than the typical T-800 and more maneuverable than Robocop, the T-X, Rev-9, and T-1000 all have a wide enough variety of tools to put Robocop down more permanently than a few thugs could.
Robocop Could Lead to Better Terminators
One small T-800 and most likely a T-850 would be easily defeated by Robocop. A triumph isn’t truly achieved if he doesn’t stop Skynet. Even worse, it might be the secret to his demise. According to Terminator 2, Sarah Conner was killed when Skynet’s unintentional inventor reverse-engineered the technology from the demolished remains of the Terminator brought back in time.
When Robocop is engaged, this grandfather paradox becomes much more intricate and risky. Robocop wouldn’t know about Skynet until he miraculously met Sarah Connor and she told him everything. But Skynet would have a lot of reasons to find out about him.
Given time travel capabilities, copious amounts of data from the fight with Robocop, and official Robocop records, Robocop may be unwittingly bringing about humanity’s demise by engaging with the Terminator. Skynet would be able to upgrade all of its creations far more quickly if it had data on a significantly superior cyborg.
Skynet may significantly improve the T-800 models or possibly create a powerful new model by considering all the areas in which Robocop outperforms the T-800, such as strength and durability. A Terminator with Robocop’s tenacity would destroy Sarah Connor, even if it wouldn’t be as lethal as some of the later variants.
Skynet Would Have No Motive to Target RoboCop with Terminators in the Past
Except for a help from the human resistance, Robocop would have no reason to realize that Skynet is the real ace for the Terminator side. Robocop has never previously faced such sophisticated enemies. Even though he has successfully repelled RoboCain and the ED-209, the most deadly Terminators are far more formidable.
Furthermore, even while Robocop might be able to defeat his machine enemies on his own, the Terminator franchise’s whole premise means he would have to contend with hordes of Skynet’s murderous robots. An entire assault force of T-800 models, much alone a single T-1000 model Terminator, would overwhelm even Robocop, superior or not.
It would be strangely irrational to send anything back in time to eliminate Robocop because Skynet is a logic-driven AI. Why take the chance of telling Robocop that Skynet exists, now or in the future? In actuality, the merciless AI has endless time.
Skynet would be far wiser to play the long game and put together its machine insurrection to eventually send Terminators after Robocop in the future rather than the past, assuming Robocop survives Judgement Day—which isn’t exactly a stretch given that regular humans survived it. Robocop would be unable to withstand such an attack, allowing Skynet to research and develop his technology to create more advanced and lethal Terminators.
In their fight against Skynet and its Terminators, the human resistance would be completely defeated by a new legion of infiltration units that combined Robocop and T-800 series Terminators. Skynet could readily recreate the alloy used in Robocop’s armor for the endoskeleton or arm its early ground forces to a similar level.
That would enable time travel for these deadly machines. There would be nothing to stop one of these improved T-800 model Terminators from carrying out its mission if it were sent after Sarah Connor. Ultimately, it might be better for the Terminator and Robocop series if they never cross paths.
