Plot Of The Film

Let’s dive into the plot of The Pope’s Exorcist

The film is based on the actual accounts of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican. The film is based in Rome, 1987. Father Gabriele Amorth, an earthy and humorous priest, travels to Spain to investigate the case of a young boy named Henry. He is allegedly possessed by a demon. He and his mother along with his sister have recently moved to Spain after his father died.

His father had bequeathed an abbey. The abbey is haunted. As Henry’s health worsens, the aged priest teams up with the neighborhood priest Father Tomas Esquibel to expel the demon from Henry. The exorcism is only the beginning, though. Amorth finds a well on the abbey grounds going down to a complex sealed off by the Church as demonically dangerous.

He finds that a founder of the Spanish Inquisition was possessed while being an exorcist, which let him infiltrate the Church and do many evils, including the Inquisition. Amorth also finds the Church covered this up, and eventually finds the name of Henry’s demon, Asmodeus, which will assist the exorcism.
