When Is Supergirl Returning On Television?

Supergirl

As powerful as Supergirl is, even she isn’t immune to the COVID-19 lockdown. As cinemas shut down, people are naturally flocking towards streaming. But all major productions seem to have shut down.

Though most of DC’s television slate has stopped shooting, Supergirl managed to film several episodes before the lockdown happened. CW has now set a new date for the show. Supergirl will now return on May 3, 2019.

Titled “Deus Ex Machina”, the episode is the seventeenth of Supergirl’s fifth season. The official synopsis of the episode states that:

“Lex proceeds to lay an intricate plan to bring Lena closer to him, defeat Leviathan’s latest attack, and pit Supergirl against Leviathan; how Lex came into power after Crisis is revealed.”

Not So-Supergirl

All episodes save for the finale had been shot before the lockdown. Because of this new situation, the show’s writers are taking the time to rework its script. Upon being interviewed by PeopleTV, Cryer revealed that although some of the material that had already been shot will indeed be reused, “they’re writing a whole bunch of new stuff around it.” Cryer also dropped a bombshell about his character that the new finale isinteresting” because the way Lex Luthor was originally planned on being defeated won’t happen anymore. He also went on to explain how happy he was that Luthor’s arc won’t end here. So, basically minor spoilers that indicate just where Supergirl is headed in regards to its characters and plot for its upcoming seasons.

With the current delay at hand, rewriting the ending to the story will certainly raise some eyebrows among the fandom. Of course, it’s certainly possible that the writers weren’t happy with the original finale and in this case, the delay certainly seems like a blessing in disguise. Though of course, fans won’t actually find that out until the episodes have actually aired.
