Vida Rochelle Blue Jr. professionally known as Vida Blue was an American Professional Baseball player. He was born on July 28, 1949, in Mansfield in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. He had 5 siblings and was the oldest son of his parents Blue Sr. ( a laborer in a Mansfield iron foundry) and Sallie.

He did his schooling from DeSoto High School in Mansfield. In his career, he won many awards and leagues like American League Cy Young Award and Most Valuable Player Award. He played for 3 teams in his career of 17 years :

Oakland Athletics (1969-77),

San Fransisco Giants (1978-81; 1985-86)

Kansas City Royals (1982-83)

Blue was the 1st player in major league history to start the All-star Game for American League and National League. The left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball, Blue, was a six-time All-Star.

Vida Blue, the left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball died at the age of 73 on Saturday, May 6, 2023, declared by the team. Although Blue was a very talented player and was a six-time All-Star, he affected his career because of drug intake.

He indulged in many off-field issues like drug addiction, consumption of alcohol, and more. He was once arrested while trying to purchase cocaine along with his friends.

His ex-teammate Reggie Jackson shared words for Blue on Sunday during an interview with The Associated Press “He was engaging. He was personable. He was caring, He was uncomfortable with the crowd.

Blue lost much weight when he was seen at the 50th reunion. Jackson added, “ I did not recognize him, I was shattered. I was shaken. That will stick with me for the rest of my life.”

“I remember watching a 19-year-old phenom dominate baseball, and at the same time alter my life,” Dave Stewart, a four-time 20-game winner for the A’s a generation later, wrote on Twitter. “There are no words for what you have meant to me and so many others.”
