The “RHOC” star’s partner Michael Smith discovered her “pretty much passed out” in a bathtub.
After experiencing a significant health scare recently, Vicki Gunvalson is speaking up.
In an interview with My Friend, My Soulmate, My Podcast on Monday, August 26, the 62-year-old Real Housewives of Orange County actress and her partner Michael Smith talked about her experiences in and out of the hospital.
The CEO and founder of Coto Insurance said that on Thursday, August 22, she started “talking gibberish” while speaking with a client.
The person, a retired physician, informed Olivia, Smith’s office-dwelling daughter, that Gunvalson was “possibly having a stroke.”
“I don’t remember anything and [Olivia] took me to the hospital,” Gunvalson said.
Gunvalson said that the hospital’s medical staff sent her home that same evening after telling her that her symptoms were only a sinus infection.
Olivia phoned Smith, who was at the time in Scottdale, Arizona, and told him to get back home.
Smith described seeing Gunvalson “pretty much passed out” in a bathtub as “one of the scariest” times of his life, having taken the earliest flight back and returned home.
“I grabbed her, pulled her out of the water, put her in bed. The doctor said she just needed to sleep, so I put her in bed and she slept literally 13, 14 hours straight,” he recalled.
Smith said that Gunvalson was “discombobulated” and unable to move when he attempted to get her out of bed, so he returned her to the hospital.
“She had a massive infection… it was actually sepsis but it was pneumonia,” Smith said. “The way [the doctors] explained it is that when your body is fighting that big of an infection… your whole body attacks it what affects the brain and everything else in your body because your body sends everything it has to fight it.”
“It was dangerous. It was scary,” Smith added.
“I don’t remember much and that’s the trauma of the brain,” Gunvalson explained. “It’s very similar to a stroke or PTSD where the brain just goes into quiet mode, it just won’t remember to protect you.”
Gunvalson reported that while she’s “okay” at the moment, her recuperation has left her “super low” in energy. The reality TV star also complimented Smith’s daughter Olivia and said that he was “amazing” for “giving me my medicines because I can’t remember when I’m taking them.”
“I’m sleeping enough — probably too much, but I can’t get the energy to walk right now. But it is very similar, it mimics a stroke, and I just have a blank three days,” the RHOC star added.
Shannon Beador, Gunvalson’s co-star on RHOC, wished everyone a happy Monday on social media.
“Love you my friend! ❤️ You are one of the strongest women that I know and you are going to continue to get stronger every day!” she captioned an Instagram photo of the two of them smiling together for a selfie.
