Usher Kicks Off Tour in Washington D.C. After Delay Due to Neck Injury

The performer was originally scheduled to commence his tour in Atlanta on Thursday, August 15.

After a brief postponement, Usher is officially embarking on a tour!

On Tuesday, August 20, and Wednesday, August 21, the 45-year-old R&B legend debuted his eagerly anticipated Past Present Future Tour with two sold-out performances at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Usher announced earlier this month that he would be postponing the initial three concerts of his eagerly anticipated tour as a result of a neck injury he sustained during rehearsals. Usher declared that the initial date in Atlanta would be postponed until August 14. The subsequent day, he announced that he would be required to postpone two additional performances.

“My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night,” he explained in his Aug. 15 statement. “Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.”

The previous dates have already been rescheduled for Dec. 9, Dec. 10 and Dec. 12.

During the eight-time Grammy winner’s two-hour set in D.C., he performed “U Don’t Have To Call,” “Confessions,” “Yeah!” and “Lovers and Friends.” He also serenaded the crowd with songs from his ninth album, Coming Home.

At the Aug. 21 show, the “Burn” singer brought out D.C. native musicians Wale, Raheem DeVaughn and E.U.’s Sugar Bear. Wale performed “The Matrimony” and “No Hands,” while DeVaughn serenaded the crowd with “You,” and Sugar Bear sang “Da’ Butt.”

Usher’s next tour stop is Baltimore, where on August 23 and 24, he will play at the CFG Bank Arena. The tour’s North American leg culminates with a three-night engagement in Atlanta in December.

The Past Present Future tour’s European leg begins on March 29 in London’s O2 Arena. He’ll play eight nights there, then on to Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris before wrapping out the tour in London in May.

The performer, shortly after concluding his My Way: The Las Vegas Residency performance, revealed that he will embark on the career-spanning tour in December 2023.

He performed at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime performance in February and released his ninth studio album, Coming Home. At the NFL championship game in Las Vegas, he invited musical guests Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am, Lil Jon, and Ludacris to join him on stage.

Usher also has a concert film, USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS, hitting roughly 2,000 theaters worldwide between Thursday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 15.
