Twitter’s All New Bookmark Feature in a Nutshell! How to Implement This Feature?

Ever since the takeover of Elon Musk, the microblogging platform Twitter has been rolling out new features every now and then. This time, it has slapped the Bookmark count feature, a statistic that shows the number of times a tweet has been bookmarked.

Let’s read more about it.

Bookmark your favorite tweets!

On Twitter, the brand-new bookmark counter is accessible among other metrics like Retweets, Quotations, and Likes on the tweet details page. According to Twitter, the counter will show the total number of times a specific tweet has been bookmarked.

But, unlike Retweets, Quotations, and Likes, clicking on the Bookmark counter will not expose the accounts that added the tweet to their list of bookmarked content. According to the company, the bookmarks will remain private, and the feature will “never display which accounts have added a Tweet to their Bookmarks.”

According to a help page for the bookmarks feature on Twitter, no matter who the author of the tweet is or who is seeing the data, all tweets will display the number of bookmarks. Everyone on Twitter, regardless of whether they are the author or reader, may view bookmark counts on Tweets, claims Twitter.

Unfortunately, upon launch, the functionality is only accessible on iOS, despite Twitter’s announcement that it will be made available on other platforms soon. No precise date has been given for the launch of the bookmarks counter on Android and the web, although based on Twitter’s official statement, it may come later this year.

The only practical way for users to save a tweet prior to the launch of the bookmarks function in 2018 was to click the “Like” button. Likes, on the other hand, are considered as a public endorsement of the tweet itself. Users no longer need to like a tweet in order to find it later thanks to the implementation of the bookmarks feature. As an alternative, they can now bookmark any tweet for later use.

How to implement this feature?

The steps listed below can be used to find out how many bookmarks a specific tweet has:

  •       See the number of Bookmarks for every tweet you choose.
  •       By selecting the analytics symbol at the bottom, select See Twitter Activity.
  •       The website will now display the tweet’s interaction as well as how many times it has been bookmarked.

Only iOS users currently have access to the count. Nonetheless, it is anticipated that the capability will also be made available to web and Android users. The function was first introduced by Musk in January of this year.

What has the audience got to say?

The new function, which was unveiled on Thursday, has already caused controversy among social media users. While some people have valued the Bookmark count, others believe it has made the metrics on the app too cluttered.

The addition of bookmark counts has already drawn harsh criticism on Twitter from individuals who believe the statistic is useless. Some have joked that the tweet page is now cluttered since Twitter has been adding so many various social media analytics to individual tweets. Particularly on the platform, women have been alarmed to discover how frequently their shared photographs of themselves have been bookmarked.

One user wrote- “I still am not understanding,” while another wrote, “I saw somebody post pictures of they daughter nd it had 200 bookmarks. Yea you’ll never catch me over sharing on dis app.”

What has Musk got to say on this?

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has asserted that bookmarks are “de facto quiet likes” and urged that both public likes and private bookmarks should be included in the overall “Like” count for tweets, despite the fact that most users utilize bookmarking differently than they do likes. For the time being, Twitter isn’t adding the number of bookmarks to the total number of “Likes,” but it’s unclear if Musk will make that adjustment in the future.

Summing it up

Like all other tech tools, it can be said that this new feature has both pros and cons. Now, it depends on us how we’d like to employ it.
