The Rise Of Skywalker Coming Early To Streaming

The Rise Of Skywalker

As Disney gears up to celebrate Star Wars on May 4, they have been mindful that the pandemic is setting everyone’s teeth on edge. And so, to alleviate the boredom, they will be releasing Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker two months early on their streaming Disney Plus. With the inclusion of The Rise Of Skywalker, fans will be able to stream every Star Wars film to date in one place.

And that’s not all. Disney is also planning on releasing a special eight-hour documentary about the making of its hit Star Wars show, The Mandalorian. And if that’s not enough, Clone Wars is also back for a final season on the streaming service.

And while that’s all cool, The Rise Of Skywalker seems to be hogging all the limelight for some reason. I know a lot of people will be tempted to give the film another chance now that it’s on streaming, but as someone who has seen the film twice, I think it kinda gets worse.

Retcons and Subversion

And the fact that Disney seems to retcon and explain everything via Twitter and novelizations only appears to show how messy this film was. And what’s weirder yet is the fact that they seem to be changing their explanations on a whim for no reason.

I wrote a critique of how Lucasfilm is handling the crisis with their biggest IP. But it’s not going to make much of a difference if they don’t change the way they make films.

Anyhoo, here is an official synopsis for The Rise Of Skywalker. I mean, you already know it anyway:

When it’s uncovered that the evil Emperor Palpatine did not die at the hands of Darth Vader, the Resistance must race against the clock to find out his whereabouts. Finn and Poe lead the rebels to put a stop to the Final Order’s plans to form a new Empire, while Rey anticipates her inevitable confrontation with Kylo Ren.
