Vera Santamaria and Natasha Rothwell, who is best known for her appearances on the television shows Insecure and White Lotus, are the creators of the show How to Die Alone. Together with Jude Weng and Desiree Akhavan, both of them are also executive producers on the project.
Big Hattie Productions, ABC Signature, and Disney’s Onyx Collective are the companies responsible for producing the popular television show. Rothwell expressed her desire for the series to “really explore the difference between loneliness and being alone” in her statement from the beginning of the series.
In November of 2022, it was revealed that Onyx Collective had acquired the rights to produce How to Die Alone for an order of eight episodes, with Rothwell serving as the lead actor.
The announcement of the cast members took place in February of 2023. At the same time that Bashir Salahuddin was revealed as a recurrent guest star, Conrad Ricamora, Jocko Sims, and KeiLyn Durrel Jones were confirmed as series regulars.
