The Equalizer is an American crime thriller created by Andrew Marlowe and Terry Miller. It is a reboot of a 1980s TV show of the same name in which Edward Woodward played the lead. In the current series though the lead is Queen Latifa. The Equalizer 2 is releasing soon!
The 10980 series has been adapted into movie format as well. The two parts of The Equalizer movies had Denzel Washington as the lead. The latest TV series has already launched a season 1 and the renewal of a new second season is confirmed already.

Plot of The Equalizer 2
Robyn McCall used to work for the CIA. Now that she has retired, the agency is again trying to recruit her. She reclines. Now she works as the Equalizer whose job is to equalize the odds for her clients. To simply put it she helps people who cannot afford the necessary help.
Besides the aforementioned secret life, she is a single mother to a teenage daughter and both share a bit of a difficult relationship.

Queen Latifah as Robyn Mccall
Latifah has a commanding screen presence. The moment she enters the room, she demands all attention. She nails the role of a disillusioned cynic who rejects the ex CIA declaring that she is tired of considering people as numbers and does not want anything from the job.
She does an admirable job in her role. But a lot of critics believe that the action sequence could have been better. It felt like fight scenes were forced on her and a superfluous attempt was present all along to make her a super vigilante. Her way of speaking and approaches towards situations make her a relatable human being which contrasts the superhuman effort.
Despite the minor issues, it gives us hope that a woman of colour is playing the lead in an action drama. It tells that the typecast mindset might be changing after all!

The Team of The Equalizer 2
Robyn has a set of helping hands who always has her back. Her friends include Melody, a sharpshooter and her husband Harry, an excellent hacker, William Bishop, an influential mediator between Robyn and the agency. Aunt Vi has become her ally to keep Delilah(Robyn’s daughter)safe. NYPD Detective Dante is a cross between an ally and non-ally but he does accept her help when needed.
Season 2
Season 1 was full of sassy dialogues, dramatic moments and lots of action. Season 1 finale ended up on a cliffhanger when Delil ah finds out the truth about her mother. When she found out her mother was about to leave she snuck out and hid inside her car. Then she finds out her mother’s secret cache. In the final moments, she only asks one question, “who are you?”
This is where season 2 is supposed to pick up from. Chances are, it will be about how Robyn got into this and ended up here. Her connection with Dante too will become clear.
As the series was due for a renewal, Latifah thanked her fans. Without great support for the show, it would not have been possible.

The pandemic and a still world are testing our faith like before. Hope seems flickering. Violence abounds day by day. At this juncture shows like this are like a security blanket that makes us feel better knowing that we still care about justice. Odds must be equalized. At the end of the day, justice should never be exclusive to those who can afford it.
