Although The Batman has currently shut production and has also been delayed from its original release date, new details keep coming in. We’ve had everyone from Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis talk about the film. Throughout these interviews, we’ve got info on the film’s tone, character appearances and whatnot. As it were, another castmember has chimed in. This time it’s Commissioner Gordon himself: Jeffrey Wright. Wright teased some details about the Batmobile and how it relates to the aesthetic and feel of Gotham as a city. It’s an interesting direction to take the world and the feel of the character in.
Saying that the film will highlight a more modern-day approach to the iconic vehicle’s design, Wright said, “I read the script for the Batmobile and I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s it! Bruce Wayne created the most badass muscle car you could imagine, but it’s grounded in A Gotham. It’s grounded in Americana.”

All of this very much is in tune with what the other actors have said. It’s nice to see how the star cast is rallying behind Matt Reeves’ vision for the character.
Reeves explained last month that he was going to pitch the version of Batman that he wanted to do, which is for the character to have a humanist bend. At one point, he even wondered if the studio will have any interest? He then revealed that he just said to himself, “If they don’t, then I won’t do it. And that’ll be okay,” the director explained. And here we are, this new take on Batman is now very much in production.
I like how Reeves wants to explore Batman’s detective angle. It’s only been touched upon in the previous films but for it to take centre stage is a refreshing story choice.
The Batman releases in October 2021.
