Nickelodeon’s That Girl Lay Lay will return for a second season in the fall. The teen hip-hop musician Alaya “That Girl Lay Lay” High and actress Gabrielle Nevaeh Green star in the buddy comedy from creator and showrunner David A. Arnold, who also serves as showrunner.

As an avatar from a personal affirmation app that comes to life, the titular actress and her best friend Sadie (Green) navigate life as adolescents and uncover their true selves, That Girl Lay Lay is a comedy-drama about friendship, discovery, and self-discovery.

That Girl Lay Lay, which premiered in the fall of 2021, saw double-digit gains on Thursday nights and maintained a continuous #1 rating in the time slot across all television in the K6-11 demographic. The series’ lead actress has also been nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Performance by a Young Person for her role in the show (Series, Special, Television Movie or Limited-Series).

More music and magical powers will be introduced in Season 2 of That Girl Lay Lay as the two best friends continue to embark on even more thrilling adventures in order to satisfy their mutual desire for Lay Lay to experience everything that comes with being a true adolescent. Peyton Perrine III plays Sadie’s brother Marky, while Tiffany Daniels portrays Sadie’s mother, Trish. Thomas Hobson plays Sadie’s father, Bryce, in the television series as well.

“I’m so excited to continue this journey with Lay Lay, Nickelodeon and all the talented actors, writers and crew that make this show the hit that it is,” said Arnold. “Stay tuned because we have so much more fun coming!”

“I couldn’t be more proud of the show that we were able to create with David A. Arnold and Nickelodeon,” executive producer Will Packer added. That Girl Lay Lay is the series that so many children today require for a variety of reasons, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what season two has in store.”

Season 2 of That Girl Lay Lay will begin production in Los Angeles early this year and is scheduled to broadcast on Nickelodeon this summer.

That Girl Lay Lay is the first project to be developed as part of Nickelodeon’s agreement with the hip-hop artist to create unique multiform content. Along with the comedic series, Nickelodeon’s partnership with That Girl Lay Lay includes backing for her musical career and a line of exclusive consumer products.

Will Packer Media produces the Nickelodeon show, with Will Packer executive producing and Peggy Cheng managing. Arnold serves as executive producer alongside John Beck and Ron Hart. Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action, are overseeing the production of That Girl Lay Lay for Nickelodeon. Jessica Brown oversees Nickelodeon’s production of the series as Executive in Charge of Production.

The 12-episode season order for the Nick series starring Alaya High was first commissioned in May 2021. The hip-hop singer-turned-actress had a sizable fan base when she was just 15 years old (1.3 million on Instagram).

Sadie, a student with a lot on her plate at school, has her life turned upside down when her phone’s hype-girl avatar comes to life.

The show is promoted as a Netflix Original and a Nickelodeon Original outside of the United States. Netflix has already used a similar marketing tactic to distribute multiple Nickelodeon titles.
