Quiver Distribution has obtained the rights to release the coming-of- age love story Summer of Violence, which was directed by Nicki Micheaux and starring various actors in an exclusive announcement. Apart from Damon Gupton, Pedro Correa, Madhulika Krishnan, and Jahking Guillory, the picture features Kasey Inez. Its next showing is set for the Black Girls Rock! Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 21–23.

Denver was going through a period of severe crime in 1993 sometimes referred to as the summer of bloodshed. The movie centers on a teenage poet who uses her writing to voice opposition to the city’s bloodshed.

Micheaux says “I am overjoyed to have discovered a proper home for the film with Quiver.” It is encouraging to have distributors that are passionate about the picture and who believe it may appeal to a lot of people. We eagerly await the public release of this film and showing it to viewers.

What is the Storyline of ‘Summer of Violence’?

The feature-length directorial debut of Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman, Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents, presented a fascinating character study. “We are honored to work with such a gifted and imaginative force.”

Micheaux developed Summer of Violence with Efuru Flowers, Maureen P. Motley, Sean Riggs, Stelio Savante, and Brian Mitchell. Executive producers include Nicki Micheaux, Johnny Wimbrey, Brian Mitchell, Sonya Marchand, Crystal, Psalms, and Hannah Wimbrey.

Contract negotiations for the picture were handled by producers Micheaux and Savante as well as Larry Greenberg representing Quiver. The film was represented by lawyer Dimiter Nikolov.

Following a screening at Heartland, Denver, Tallgrass International, and Downtown Los Angeles Film festivals, where it won “Best Picture,” “Audience Award,” and “Outstanding First Feature,” Micheaux’s directorial debut from her own script was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Austin Film Festival.

It also chronicles Naomi’s story, who chooses to pursue poetry rather than law school. Cut off amid a period of extreme crime in Denver in 1993—known as the Summer of Violence—she struggles to live in the city with the support of her friends and family.
