Robert Pattinson’s Batman Isn’t Fully Formed Yet

Warner Bros. has currently shut down production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. After Ben Affleck departed from the role, Pattinson’s involvement has certainly raised eyebrows among the rabid fanbase. There’s a sizable chunk that believes that the former Twilight actor isn’t a good fit for the role of Bruce Wayne. However, I beg to differ.

To begin with, let’s not pretend that Pattinson was any sort of revelation in the teen vampire series. But there was little he could do given the quality of the source material. The former teen heartthrob has been honing his acting skills of late starring in several acclaimed indie movies. His performances, particularly in The Lighthouse and Good Time floored me. The guy can act, no doubt about that! (oh, and a special mention to his endearing performance as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)

Matt Reeves Says His Version Of Batman Isn’t Fully Formed Yet

Confirming that a quarter of the movie had been shot, Reeves revealed that his Batman is a version of the character that is still learning the ropes and isn’t fully formed yet. And though Christopher Nolan’s take on the Caped Crusader did present us with an origin story, I’m assuming Reeves has different plans for how this iteration of the character will come into his own.

For one, I’m truly glad that Reeves has confirmed that this won’t be another origin story. Instead, he plans on veering towards Batman’s detective skills which haven’t been fully explored on-screen. Sure, we’ve seen him do some detective work here and there, but Reeves is taking it up a notch. The film’s narrative has been crafted as a primarily noir-driven mystery, taking place one year into Bruce Wayne’s career as Batman. There are reports that the movie will take inspiration from The Long Halloween and Batman: Year One. Though it won’t be directly based on any of them and will tell its own original story.

Batman

The Batman is currently on track to release on June 21, 2021. However, considering how the pandemic has slowed down most of Hollywood, there is a good chance that it might be delayed. Here’s hoping that the movie lives up to its promises whenever it does release!
