There is a wide variety of games in the Pokemon series for fans to get their hands on. There’s the mainline series, with Pokemon Sword and Shield being the latest releases. Pokemon GO is, of course, the mobile game variant.
The “Mystery Dungeon” spin-off series is lesser-known but it has a dedicated fanbase of its own. It offers a departure from the usual gameplay loop of traditional Pokemon games.
A Delightful Spin-Off
The latest entry, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, is out for the Nintendo Switch.
As the name suggests, it is a remake that seemingly combines the first two releases in this series – Blue Rescue Team and Red Rescue Team. These two titles first came out on both the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS, all the way back in 2015.
Rescue Team DX updates the graphics and adds a bunch of other improvements to the original. The core idea behind the Mystery Dungeon series is the same.
You still have to explore the world and collect all the Pokemon that you may encounter within it. However, it adds a fun twist to this traditional Pokemon formula.
Playing As A Pokemon
See in the mainline Pokemon games, you play as a trainer who catches and trains Pokemon. Mystery Dungeon still maintains that formula of building a team of Pokemon.
Except here, you play as a Pokemon yourself. Instead of catching Pokemon with a Pokeball as you usually do, you have to befriend and recruit them to your team.
Part of the fun of Rescue Team DX is the chance to recruit Shiny Pokemon, which are powerful, rare versions of regular Pokemon.
While this is possible to do through regular means, the use of the “Friend Bow” item makes it much easier. There are a few ways to get the Friend Bow. All of them become available only after the game’s main story concludes, though.
Getting The Friend Bow
One method is to travel to Mt. Faraway. Going there is part of a post-game quest anyway, so it’s not much of a hassle. Mt. Faraway is a 60-floor dungeon and the Friend Bow appears at random on the 30th floor. So, make sure to explore that floor thoroughly.
Another way to get a hold of the Friend Bow is through a Kecleon Shop in the Joyous Tower. You can buy it directly from the random Kecleon Shops there, for 5000 Pokedollars.
If you don’t have the money for this, you could always try stealing it. Be prepared to fight through the Kecleon security forces if you do, though.
Equipping your leader Pokemon with the Friend Bow gives you a 10% boost when it comes to recruiting Pokemon. This boost is vital if you want some Shiny and Legendary Pokemon to be a part of your team.
