We haven’t heard anything about Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 for a while now. The last time we saw a Pirates movie in theatres was back in 2017, subtitled Salazar’s Revenge. Since then, we’ve heard of some major updates regarding the Pirates franchise.
Johnny Depp To Return For Pirates Of The Caribbean 6?
The biggest one being that Disney had removed Johnny Depp from the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp’s turn as the character is iconic but in the aftermath of the scandal from his marriage to Amber Heard, he was let go.
However, recent developments pointed towards Depp being an innocent victim in all of this. Support for his return as Jack Sparrow began swelling around the internet in the days and months since those shocking revelations.
Chernobyl Creator Working On A New Pirates Of The Caribbean Movie
Disney has already approached Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin to write a new Pirates Of The Caribbean movie. Ted Elliot, who wrote the previous Pirates films, is working alongside him. Is this movie going to be Pirates Of The Caribbeans 6? Will we see Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow?
While that would be really cool to see, it seems unlikely that Disney will go in that direction. A recent report from The Disinsider stated that Disney might be looking to go down the reboot route instead.

Disney May Reboot The Franchise With Marvel Star
A reboot traditionally means a whole new cast and set of stories. That would already put Johnny Depp out of the running. The report also goes on to say that Disney’s considering Karen Gillan for the lead role in this reboot. She’d supposedly be playing the character of Redd.
Redd is a pirate that’s part of the Pirates Of The Caribbean attraction at Disney Parks. Karen Gillan, who stars as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, certainly fits the look of the character.
All-in-all, the future of the Pirates franchise is still unclear. Johnny Depp’s return as Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 wouldn’t cause any controversy anymore. However, that’s all dependent on what Disney’s plans are.
