This year, Halloween came early. Celebrities showed off their outfits over Hallowe’en weekend, or even days before October 31. Every costume is a chance for the star to show a side of themselves that fans don’t usually get to see, whether it’s an old classic or a reference to a well-known pop culture event from 2023.
SAG-AFTRA’s rules for enjoying Halloween during a work stoppage say that many celebrities will have to get creative with their “strike-friendly” costumes. This means that we can expect to see a lot of Barbies and Oppenheimers trick-or-treating this year.
Members of the union are told not to dress up as characters that could support movies or TV shows from a studio that has gone on strike. The leaders of SAG-AFTRA made the union’s position clear in a letter sent to The Hollywood Reporter: “SAG-AFTRA put out Halloween guidelines after members and content producers asked how they could support the strike during the holiday season.
This is the latest set of rules we’ve put out to help them avoid pushing work that has already been marked as “stricken.” It’s not for anyone’s children. Why are we on strike? We’ve been on strike for almost 100 days straight. Getting the studios back to the table to negotiate is still our top goal. Only then can we get a fair deal for our members and get our industry back to work.
