When Zendaya appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week, she formally kicked off the Dune: Part Two publicity tour! However, the actress debuted on the red carpet last night at an event in Mexico to promote the eagerly awaited sequel—all while donning an avant-garde ensemble from designer Torishéju Dumi’s own Torishéju label.

Although Torishéju’s creations have always appealed to Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach, this custom dress, which was inspired by an outfit from the designer’s spring 2024 collection, may be the best of them all. Her ensemble was a play on the classic skirt set, consisting of an asymmetrical crop top that exposed her abs and a longline maxi dress with a long side slit.

However, the padding, puffy accents and abstract fabric pieces that lined both pieces were the real focal point of the ensemble. The effect was almost armor-like, totally fitting Zendaya’s warrior-princess Dune outfit while also being distinctly her own.

During her press tour trips, the actress has always supported up-and-coming designers, even if she has had different ties with names like Valentino and Louis Vuitton. It’s unbelievable, but this is also Torishéju’s first time appearing on a red carpet.

The fashion designer, who debuted on the Paris runway in October with Naomi Campbell as the opening act, draws inspiration from her Nigerian roots in her attire, which ranges from sculptural designs like this one to deconstructed tailoring.

During Paris Fashion Week, Zendaya debuted short bangs and turned heads with her dramatic black skirt

The front’s details, while striking in and of themselves, were not the only aspect of the appearance. Together with the striking train of the skirt, Zendaya’s top had a striking bustle accent on the back that added the ideal finishing touch.

Here, Zendaya went for a dewy glam look, sleek back shoes, gold ear cuffs, and a sleek hairstyle to let the ensemble speak for itself.

It appears like Zendaya and Roach are using their natural ability to switch up their style for press appearances. Zendaya has always been a bit of a style chameleon. Her matching ensemble from The Attico was the perfect amount of edgy, and it just so happened to match her co-star Timothée Chalamet’s leather leggings.

Zendaya (as well as Roach) excels at putting her own unique spin on classic silhouettes. For example, she wore a slim pant for Kimmel and a conventional maxi skirt and crop top for her most recent picture call.
