Many films often come into the delay trap. They get pushed back due to various reasons like reshoots, contracts and ownership deals. Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic, almost all the Hollywood movies are getting a taste of the ‘delay train’. However, Marvel’s New Mutants is not a stranger to this, and the delay now may even be a blessing according to the film’s producers.
New Mutants: The History Of Delays
New Mutants has been delayed almost four times at this point. First, the movie delays due to 2017 reshoots. Then, the Marvel and Disney deal comes up, and the film pushes again. In 2019, when the contract is final, Disney decides to promote the movie to April 2020. And now, the coronavirus pandemic has taken the film off of the release list again.
However, one thing is for sure. The movie is finally complete, and its marketing is also on right now. Therefore, we can expect it to come back whenever Disney decides to release its other March and April movies.

New Mutants: A Lot Of Firsts For Marvel
The director of New Mutants, Josh Boone, says that there is a lot less pressure on the film to perform well since X-men: Dark Phoenix release last year. His co-writer Lee feels that the movie has a lot of firsts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
New Mutants is Marvel’s first horror film. It is also the first Marvel film to show queer representation. The characters of Wolfsbane and Mirage are in a same-sex queer romance in the movie. Therefore, according to both Boone and Lee, the film is still better even if it is late.
Release Date And Competition
Past movies from the X-men franchise have mixed reviews. While the initial films are hits, the Dark Phoenix saga and X-Men Apocalypse are not fan-favourites. Therefore, it will be exciting to see how Marvel will tackle the X-men now that they share the same universe as the Avengers.
However, another competition that they face is from Morbius. Morbius is another horror-thriller movie which is on a Marvel character. If it comes out first then, New Mutants may lose their ‘first horror movie’ title. While Morbius is coming in July, the release date for the New Mutants is not out yet.
