New Mutants Gets A New Release Date

If you’re expecting this article to crack a stupid joke at the expense of The New Mutants being delayed, look elsewhere. But in any case, the film has received a new release date after being delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now release on August 28, 2020.

The film was originally slated to come out in April 2018 but was delayed to February 2019. Fox said that the film was delayed in order to make it scarier. But then the film was again delayed to August 2019. But following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the release date was moved once again to April 2020.

New Mutants Might Be Delayed Again

It’s worth noting, however, that there may be a chance that the film might be delayed again. As things stand right now, there’s no telling just when will everything go back to normal; going to the cinemas being one of them. AMC, the largest chain in America, is currently on the verge of bankruptcy. There are reports that Amazon might be interested in buying out the chain. As it were, theatres do seem to be suffering a lot, what with studios using Premium VOD as an alternative means for distribution.

Folks have asked just why exactly has Disney not dumped The New Mutants on Disney Plus already. And if not on their streaming service, why not as a Premium VOD title. Maybe it’s because they see potential in The New Mutants as a potential franchise. The film, by all accounts, is the last thread in Fox’s Marvel universe, and with Dark Phoenix’s failure, I’m sure Disney is eager to sever any ties to the series.

Maybe there’s a chance that the film will somehow tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point. As is, Disney let Josh Boone be the main creative voice to fulfil his original vision, and the planned reshoots never happened.
