Miley Cyrus‘s mid-performance jabs and impassioned victory speeches cemented her place as one of the 2024 Grammy Awards’ most unforgettable moments.
On Sunday night, February 5, the singer won her first two Grammys. Her beachy breakup anthem, “Flowers,” took home the awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance.
She sang the 2023 song live in between her victories, and at one point she chastised the crowd for not joining in.
She urged the audience to respond to her performance with greater fervor, asking, “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?” in between lines.
To celebrate her accomplishment, she then threw in a few spoken adlibs and changed a few lines.
“I started crying but then remembered that I just won my first Grammy! I didn’t want to leave you (but had to), I didn’t want to fight (but we did),”
Most people agree that the song is about her relationship breakup with her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.

The singer of “We Can’t Stop” received a lot of positive feedback from fans after they posted their updated version of the song online.
One person on X/Twitter commented, “Miley Cyrus just displayed amazing talent and vocals while also being hilarious and sarcastically bullying the crowd into getting hype.”
“Wait, Miley Cyrus is hilarious; the way she’s so unserious,” said another admirer in agreement.
Mariah Carey gave Cyrus her very first Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance, and it was obvious that the former Disney star treasured the occasion.
Cyrus said, pointing to Carey, “This MC is going to stand by this MC because this is just too iconic.”
“Oh my god, I just thought I was going to miss this moment because I got stuck in the rain and traffic.” And while it’s okay that I missed the award, Mariah Carey did not! You were at the Hollywood Bowl, last I saw. Everything was involved.

Later in the evening, Cyrus defeated Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”, boygenius’s “Not Strong Enough,” Jon Batiste’s “Worship,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “vampire,” SZA’s “Kill Bill,” Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” and Victoria Monét’s “On My Mama” to win the Record of the Year honor.
“It’s an incredible award. While accepting the significant prize, Cyrus remarked, “But I really hope that it doesn’t change anything because my life was beautiful yesterday.”
“Everyone in this world is amazing, even though not everyone will win a Grammy,” she went on, laughing as she said, “so please don’t think that this is important, even though it’s very important, right guys?”
Cyrus then started reciting a list of persons she wished to express her gratitude to, saying things like “my mommy, my sister, my love, and my main gays because look how good I look.”
“I don’t believe I overlooked anyone. However, I might have overlooked my underpants. Goodbye! Cyrus concluded her remarks with laughs and applause. Viewers have pointed out that her father, fellow artist Billy Ray Cyrus, was not mentioned in the acceptance speech.
On a night called “Year of the Women,” female musicians dominated the major categories in other parts of the presentation.
It was recently disclosed that the awards presentation saw a 34% increase in watching figures, marking its biggest ratings in four years.
