Dylan, the adoptive daughter of Allen and Farrow, accused Allen of sexual abuse.
Actors who want to collaborate with her former partner, Woody Allen, are something that Mia Farrow “completely gets.”
On Sunday, September 1, the 79-year-old actress and activist made an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, where she spoke up about her romance with Allen, 88, which lasted from 1980 until 1992. During that period, Farrow starred in thirteen of the director’s motion pictures.
Following their breakup, Allen started dating and eventually wed Soon-Yi Previn, Farrow’s adoptive daughter. Another of Farrow’s children, Dylan Farrow, also accused Allen of sexual assault, saying that at the age of seven, Allen had touched her. Allen never received official charges.
During Sunday’s sit-down, journalist Seth Doane asked Farrow, “Are you able to separate the experience as an actor in those films from the personal trials and tribulations that would follow?” Farrow responded, “Oh yeah, yeah.”
“I completely understand if an actor decides to work with him,” the Rosemary’s Baby star added. “I’m not one who’d say, ‘Oh, they shouldn’t.’ “
In response to Dylan’s allegations of sexual assault against Allen, a number of performers declared they would not work with the Annie Hall Oscar winner.
Stars like Colin Firth and Greta Gerwig have declared they would never collaborate with the director again, while Kate Winslet and Drew Barrymore have voiced remorse over appearing in his films. Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Hall contributed to the Time’s Up campaign in 2018 by donating their earnings from Allen productions.
During his Club Random podcast in April of this year, comedian Bill Maher criticized actors who had taken similar stands and said they were done working with Allen. The Spanish actor reiterated his defense of the “genius” Allen in 2021, citing the fact that the filmmaker was never found guilty of sexual assault. Actress Gina Gershon described Allen’s relationships as “not really any of our businesses” and a “family matter” in 2022.
Allen’s adoption by Farrow into her family was formerly described as “the greatest regret of my life.” The actress talked about her ex-partner’s interactions with some of their kids, including Soon-Yi Previn, in the HBO documentary series Allen v. Farrow, which aired in 2021. Allen and Previn, who were wed in 1997, currently have two kids together.
Farrow talked candidly about her marriage to Frank Sinatra and her experiences playing parts for older women with her longtime pal LuPone, who is currently a costar in the Broadway production of The Roommate. LuPone, 75, remarked, “Not many people have had Mia’s life.”
“I’m old, you know?” Farrow responded with a laugh. Of life these days, she added, “I’m very good at doing nothing … I’m endlessly entertaining to myself. I have good friends. I have no complaints.”
