Meat Loaf, who was born Michael Lee Aday in Dallas, Texas, has a six-decade career in rock music. One of the greatest artists of all time, he sold millions of records around the world. With its operatic rock flair and smash single “Bat Out of Hell,” the Bat Out of Hell album trilogy was his most popular release and one of his most popular albums. Over 43 million copies of the first album in the trilogy, which was released in 1977 and spent nine years on the music charts, have been sold. The album has been certified 14 times platinum and continues to sell about 200,000 copies a year, nearly four decades after its first release.

It’s also worth noting that the musician has appeared in numerous films and television shows, most notably as Eddie in the 1975 production of Rocky Horror Picture Show and as Robert “Bob” Paulson in the 1999 film Fight Club. He has appeared in episodes of Ghost Wars, Elementary, House, and Monk, as well as a Glee parody of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

With the publishing of To Hell and Back: An Autobiography in 1999, Meat Loaf also became a published author two decades before his death. The next year, Meat Loaf: To Hell and Back, a documentary film based on his autobiography, aired on VH1.

His wife Deborah, whom he married in 2007, and his two children Pearl and Amanda, whom he shared with his ex-wife Leslie Aday, were all that he left behind. Meat Loaf’s family published a message on the singer’s Facebook page following his tragic demise, confirming the news of his passing.

“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side. Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours,” the statement read. “His amazing career spanned six decades that saw him sell over 100 million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including ‘Fight Club,’ ‘Focus,’ ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ and ‘Wayne’s World.’ ‘Bat Out of Hell’ remains one of the top ten selling albums of all time.”

‘We know how much he meant to so many of you and we greatly appreciate all of your love and support as we journey through this time of sadness in losing such an inspirational artist and wonderful man,’ the post continued. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this time. From his heart to yours, keep on rocking!” Meat Loaf’s cause of death was not included in the statement at the time, however later sources stated that Meat Loaf died of a heart attack.

However, many celebrities who worked with or knew Meat Loaf paid tribute to the rock artist on social media before news of his death could get out. “Dead Ringer” with Meatloaf was a blast. For Cher’s family, friends, and fans, Cher wrote: “I am very sorry for his family, friends, and fans.” “Am I dreaming It, or Are Amazing Ppl in the Arts Dying every other Day?” the pop star said in response.

While this was all going on, British actor Stephen Fry recalled an episode of Saturday Night Live from the mid-80s in which he shared the stage with the legend. It’s my hope that paradise is as you remember it from the dashboard light, Meat Loaf. His tweet included the following: “He had the uncommon and beautiful quality of being both frightening and cuddly at the same time… Had a great time working with him on Saturday Live back in the past century.”

TMZ said that insiders familiar with the minutes preceding Meat Loaf’s death claimed that he was “very unwell” with COVID-19 before his death, while no official cause of death has been revealed. Days before his death, the rock musician reportedly planned to attend a business dinner to discuss a show he was working on, themed after his iconic single “I’d Do Anything For Love.” Officials say Meat Loaf never showed up—the musician cancelled his dinner since his health was already deteriorating.

Meat Loaf may or may not have been vaccinated against the virus at the time of this writing. The family of Meat Loaf has yet to confirm or deny these rumours, either.

COVID was “scary to death” for Meat Loaf months before his passing; but he stated in an interview that he would sooner die than face quarantine. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette interviewed him in August 2021 and he called face masks “a nuisance” as well.

Asked about his fear of Covid at the time, he replied: “Oh my gosh! I’m scared to death!” There is no way you can be serious. Even though suspending life for a short time made sense to me, I’m sorry; they just cannot continue to do so due to political considerations. Political reasons are to blame for the current halt. Last night, CNN revealed that the masks we’ve all been wearing are ineffective. But I’ve been aware of this for six months. They take no action. They won’t be able to prohibit you from obtaining Covid.”
