The family of Marion Barber III is still waiting for news from the coroner in Frisco, Texas, on the manner in which the former National Football League running back passed away. According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Barber’s body was discovered in his apartment on Wednesday, but it is thought that he passed away several days previously.
Residents of the building informed the Frisco police that water was pouring from the flat, which prompted the police to conduct a welfare check there. According to Hill, there is no reason to suspect any foul play.
“They are just using tissue as they dig further into the cause of death,” Barber’s father, Marion Barber II, told Hill. “They are ruling out things. They haven’t seen any trauma, no foul substances in his body. His lungs were in working order.
The heart and veins around the heart were good. They are ruling things out. Right now, we are just waiting.”
Barber was 38 years old.
On June 10, which was also the date of his younger brother Thomas’ wedding, he would have turned 39 years old. Thomas chose the date as a homage to his brother, and the family will proceed with the wedding before a memorial ceremony for Barber on June 22 in Minneapolis, Barber II told Hill. The service will be held in his hometown of Minneapolis.
Since his retirement from the NFL at the end of the 2012 season, Barber has struggled with his mental health on and off. However, in order to respect his son’s wishes, his family has decided not to make a donation of his brain to be used in CTE research, as stated by Barber’s father to Hill.
