A futuristic anime is something audiences just love. And Kiznaiver delivers on that promise quite dutifully. The Studio Trigger first made its way onto our screens back in 2016 and magically enchanted its viewers. Studio Trigger surely had a good one under their sleeves with Kiznaiver. And as usual, we know nothing of the next season to a perfectly good anime. So Kiznaiver season 2 is still nowhere to be seen, in true Studio Trigger style. So what’s the release date on Kiznaiver Season 2? Will it even come out? What do the creators intend to do with the show? Keep reading to find out the answers to all these questions.

Kiznaiver: About the Anime

Kiznaiver

Kiznaiver is a futuristic anime, set in a futuristic city, Sugomori City, from parts of Japan unknown. Produced by Studio Trigger, CrunchyRoll, and Aniplex, the anime is a visual masterpiece. Kiznaiver follows, well, it follows Katsuhira Agata and the “Kiznaivers”, hence the title. The Kiznaivers are a group of people in the magical futuristic city of Sugomori. These people are supernaturally connected to each other in the way that they share all their pain and suffering with each other. These people are connected to each other as a part of a system: The Kizna system. The system has been created by the supposed creators of the city themselves. These supposed creators hold the belief that the best way to bring about peace is to make everyone share their pain and suffering. That’s very communist of the creators, to be quite frank.

As we mentioned before, the anime is a visual masterpiece, and fans love it for the same. Critics and fans have highly praised the production and post-production of the show. The series first debuted in Japan on channel Tokyo MX, and later released in the US and UK. In the US, Crunchyroll is the official licensor of the anime. While in the UK, Anime Limited holds the anime license. The show has been directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi, and contains some of the best art direction we have ever seen. And to be quite honest, it is one of the best sci-fi anime of 2016. And although the anime meets all our expectations, some people have found themselves questioning that. They felt that the anime did not hold up to some of Studio Trigger’s other productions.

Criticism for Kiznaiver

Kiznaiver Criticism
Kiznaiver just has way too many characters for its own good

While we are bound to disagree with this, we do agree that the anime could use some criticism. Such as a cast that is just too diverse for the short 12 episode run. That is a very valid criticism of the anime, as we are just not looking for a Game of Thrones-esque cast when all the anime is going to run for is one season, and the publisher is going to leave us hanging for a second one. When the studio itself is a job hopper, or an anime hopper in this case, it doesn’t make sense. There is no point for such a vast cast. And that being said, the criticism of the cast is supported by the fact that the anime can feel too rushed at times. In all other aspects though, the anime is a clear winner.

Kiznaiver Season 2: Renewal

Kiznaiver
Kiznaiver might never return, ever

What about a Kiznaiver season 2 though? When does it come out? Well, we don’t know. And given the track record for Studio Trigger, we would bet a thousand bucks things don’t look good. The studio is known for releasing single seasons of good anime and moving on to the next thing. An anime hopper, some might say. And the criticism is quite valid and warranted. The studio just ends up making audiences fall in love with the characters, and then takes it away.

Case in point, the anime we are talking about today. Kiznaiver first came out in 2016, and has since not been renewed for a second season, akin to other anime by Trigger. ‘Kill la Kill‘ and ‘Little Witch Academia‘, both amazing anime, met with the same fate. A renewal for these anime never got to see the light of the day.

Considering everything so far, it just seems highly unlikely that Studio Trigger has any plans for releasing Kiznaiver Season 2. The first season of the show was not a commercial blockbuster by any means. And an anime hopper like Studio Trigger is bound to not give attention to a show that didn’t earn them money. They don’t even give commercially successful shows their time of the day, and this is a far flight from that.

Kiznaiver Season 2: Release Date

Kiznaiver Season 2
Despite all its strengths, Kiznaiver Season 2 is a far fetched dream

There is a silver lining to everything. The silver lining to this show is the fact that the show hasn’t been officially canceled yet. That is not much to go with, but it is something. At least the show runners have not given up on the show outright. That might be good news for avid fans of the show. However, a not canceled show does not mean a renewed show. And that is something we would like to emphasize again and again. The boss people at Studio Trigger don’t seem particularly fond of renewing their shows, so it is what it is.

Given everything, even if the show was to be renewed today, which we would again like to say, is not happening, the best we would be looking at is a 2023 release date. Given the 18 month production cycle for most anime these days owing to the pandemic, that is a good estimate. However, this is just a best case scenario. The studio already has a number of other anime in the lineup. So we bet that they would get the first preference. By any means, 2023 is the best case scenario for Kiznaiver season 2. The most probable case scenario for the show is to be stuck in Limbo. Because that is the place most of the Anime hoppers’ shows go.

Tl;dr : The best case scenario for the show is mid-2023. Don’t expect anything before then.

Kiznaiver Season 2: Final Words

While we really hope the Kiznaiver Season 2 happens in the coming time, things just don’t look good. Anime hopper Studio Trigger just doesn’t seem like the type of studio that’ll return for a second season. Kiznaiver season 2 just seems like a far fetched dream at this point. However, as we said, it is not completely off the table and there are always possibilities. It is just not the show we would hold our breath for. Things just don’t look that well for a second season.

Still, the second best thing you can do is catch up on the first season. The show is really a worthwhile one and the first season is phenomenal. The show was met with a generally warm response from the audience, or the lack thereof. Regardless, the show is a good one. And a graphical masterpiece at that. It is one of the best looking animes of 2016 and has some excellent art direction. The score is on point and the music production in general is amazing.

It gets our seal of approval. The show is currently rated at 7.4 on MyAnimeList, our preferred web portal for all things anime. The show also holds a rating of 7 on IMDb. Those are both pretty decent ratings for an anime this infamous.
