We’ve previously covered how John Wick Chapter 4 might be delayed, and looks like it is now official. The hotly-anticipated film previously had a release date of May 2021 and was scheduled to clash with The Matrix 4.
As insane as it is to imagine that two films starring Keanu Reeves on the same day, it’s probably for the best. Though it’s surely put a dent in the theory that John Wick took place in the Matrix. In any case, the COVID-19 pandemic has successfully brought another film franchise to its knees.
Though it would appear that Hollywood is counting on the late summer or the early fall slot; for when it will be safe to resume business operations; there are no concrete indications that cameras will be able to roll then. Not to mention the fact that The Matrix 4 is still in the works.
No Clash Between The Matrix And John Wick
Since the film still has a good chunk of principal photography left, the expectation for a while has been John Wick 4 wouldn’t be able to reach that May 2021 release date. Just yesterday, John Wick 4 director Chad Stahelski admitted a delay was likely, and now we have official word that it is indeed the case.
The Matrix 4 hiccup meant that John Wick 4 wouldn’t ever really make its release date of May 2021.
As per its new release date, John Wick 4 will be clashing with the D&D movie and opening just a week before Ezra Miller’s The Flash. There is obviously going to be facing some intense competition at the box office. Black Panther 2 will be screening but it should still do very well for itself financially as a result of its R-Rating.
As it were, I’m really excited to see how it all pans out given the current situation. John Wick Chapter 4 will release in May 2022. Here’s hoping it lives up!
