Minds were blown when it was announced that John Wick Chapter 4 would be clashing with Matrix 4. Given how the Internet is in love with Reeves, that kind of response only made sense. But given the fact that he COVID-19 pandemic has put a bit of a damper on the production of major blockbusters, it’s rather likely that John Wick Chapter 4 will suffer a delay.
As is stands, Chad Stahelski and his John Wick team are currently in the early parts of pre-production. The script is currently being written, but they are also juggling to make sense of the industry-wide production pause which has brought the industry to his knees as the global pandemic ranges on.
And so, it remains to be seen whether John Wick 4 will be able to wrap up on time as release on its previously announced May 21, 2021 release date.
Will John Wick Chapter 4 Still Clash With The Matrix?
When Collider asked Stahelski about a potential delay for the film, the director stated, “Yeah, sorta. There was the whole Matrix same-day thing. That was a fubar thing; couple wires got crossed between studios, that was a misquote from someone else about how they’re releasing all on the same day,” he said.
He then went on to reveal, “Between how much we want to expand the John Wick — and uh, let’s just call it a ‘franchise’, I guess — and the pandemic, I really can’t give away a release date for the next one. I mean, Matrix 4 was only four weeks in when this all happened. So, Keanu’s gotta go finish his commitment up on The Matrix, which is a big deal and which I think will probably take him until the end of the year, you know. Then we have to go into our prep mode, and we’ll start. So release dates, I’m sure with every production from Dave’s stuff to our stuff, who knows right now.”
