JK Rowling returns to Twitter after transgender comments sparked backlash

The Situation

After about 6 days, give or take, JK Rowling has returned to Twitter since her bombshell statement.

The Harry Potter author faced a serious backlash after she shared a lengthy essay explaining her views amid the transphobia row surrounding her.

She came under some immense fire following comments about transgender people.

However, she was quick to open up about her own experiences of domestic abuse and sexual assault.

The Pretext

The writer discussed the accusations of transphobia she was facing, fiercely denying them altogether.

One part of her essay was excruciating, which saw her express the belief that certain trans women shouldn’t be allowed to use female changing rooms.

She wrote: “When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman – and, as I’ve said, gender confirmation certificates may now be granted without any need for surgery or hormones – then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside. That is a simple truth.”

Procession

Today, on the 17th of June, she returned to social media platform Twitter after a six-day break.

There was undeniably a huge debate about whether or not her essay stood on moral grounds.

Fans also speculated her views, confused and muddled about how to react, if at all.

Anyway, rather than continue the discussion around her controversial comments, JK Rowling decided to take another step.

She went on to celebrate the artwork of her young fans by sharing a series of drawings based on her new story The Ickabog.

She released that for free during the coronavirus lockdown. Good job, ma’am!
