The pair brought their ‘Instigator’ personas during an attempted “robbery” of a Boston Dunkin’
Matt Damon and Casey Affleck are prepared to do nearly anything for Dunkin’ Donuts.
Damon and Affleck recently executed a “heist” at a Boston Dunkin’ Donuts in a commercial to advertise their most recent film, The Instigators.
Dunkin posted a video on Instagram with the caption: Grab a Dunkin’ and watch #TheInstigators now streaming on Apple TV+
The commercial commences with Affleck, 49, instructing an exasperated Damon, 53, to place a sack over his hand, while he is off camera. A Dunkin’ teller greets the two as they enter the coffee chain. However, Affleck responds promptly: “We have both good and bad news.” The positive news is that your shift has concluded. The unfortunate news is that you are being plundered.
The commercial then cuts to Affleck holding up the paper bag and saying, “You ever been robbed before? This is what it looks like.”
But the pair’s plan doesn’t fool the cashier, who tells Affleck: “I can see your hand, Einstein.” He then rips the bag off Affleck’s hand uncovering his finger gun. Damon reluctantly adds, “I also have a gun.” The cashier joins in and reveals his finger gun as he replies, “Two instigators here, huh? Busting chops.”
The Dunkin’ Donuts employee, who is irritated, urges the two to place an order. He states, “It has been a long day; what do you want?” There is an entire procession of people behind you.
Damon and Ben Affleck surrender and Damon orders a Boston Kreme and a “large regulah” coffee, and Affleck asks for a strawberry frosty (after confirming that Affleck will pay for it). Since they brought their own paper bags, Damon tells the employee they’ll use those since it’s “better for the environment.”
The pair recently spoke about filming The Instigators movie in their hometown of Boston. “The sense of humor and the way that people just tend to look at the world back here,” Damon shared, noting how it is “really fun when you come from it because you know what it is.”
“It can feel abrasive to people who aren’t from here. But when you’re from here, it feels like, you know, a comfortable pair of socks,” he added.
“Boston has changed a lot,” Affleck pointed out. “It’s really not the city that we grew up in … The whole country has changed. There’s been so much change in the culture.”
He continued, “On the other hand, it’s the place I still feel more at home than anywhere else. So that says something about what a place does to you when you’re growing. I’ll forever be connected to this place no matter how much it changes.”
In their most recent film, the actors portray an unlikely duo that endeavors to perpetrate a robbery on a corrupt Boston politician. Artists Equity, the production company of Damon and Ben Affleck, is responsible for its production.
Chuck Maclean and Casey collaborated on the screenplay. The comedy-drama was directed by Doug Liman.
AppleTV+ provides access to The Instigators for streaming.
