“During a recital held during a music festival held in the Costinești resort, Constanța county, [Khalifa] possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (onstage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette,” a translated press release from Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors DIICOT reads. “We make it clear that, during the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence.”

According to the prosecutor’s office, the investigations against the artist are still progressing.

Khalifa later wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “Last nights show was amazing,” I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

The Romanian media stated that “Beach Please!” was the location of an anti-drug campaign that was launched by YouTuber Andrei Selaru, who is also a co-founder of the festival. The campaign was established in conjunction with the Romanian Ministry of the Interior.

According to the announcer for Antena 3 CNN in Romania, the festival is expected to have approximately 200,000 people participating in it.

Although Khalifa is not the first American rapper to be arrested for possessing cannabis while on tour in Europe, he is not the first. Nicki Minaj was taken into custody at Amsterdam Schiphol airport in the month of May on the suspicion that she was “exporting soft drugs.”
