Everyone has a top choice college or university that feels like a dream that’s a million years away. However, getting into your dream school is not an impossibility! Regardless of your self-doubt, with some hard work and these six tips, you can increase your chances of finding an acceptance letter.

Get Help

Getting assistance with college prep and sending in admission applications is one of the most important steps to take and will help you in big ways. A college admission consultant knows the ins and outs of the admission process of each school, what they look for and how to help you optimise your admission to give you the best chance. If you’re in the area, speak to a Phoenix College Consultant to help you make your dreams come true.

Apply Widely

Do some research about schools in your area (or wherever you’re willing to travel to for college) and broaden your options a little. The chances are, there are going to be quite a few schools that could fall under your “dream” category. Branching out your options and applying widely will hugely increase your chances of getting selected for at least one of them.

Apply Early

Getting your application in ahead of the deadlines will not only give you peace of mind, knowing that your job is done, but it also makes a good impression and helps you to stand out. Your admission application will be reviewed earlier and you may stand a better chance of receiving an acceptance.

Work Hard

Once your applications are in, the most important thing you can do is work hard on your grades. Ultimately, these will be one of the biggest deciding factors when schools are looking at your application.

A good high school GPA will set you apart as a hard worker, and someone that schools will want on their campus. Dedicate yourself to your final year of school, do practice tests, create and implement a study schedule and truly devote yourself to your grades for the next few months. However, keep in mind that rest is important too and very necessary in order to be able to perform at your best in the long term.

Send in a Letter of Recommendation

An enthusiastic letter of recommendation from a teacher who knows you and your work ethic can contribute majorly to your admission application. Be sure to ask a teacher who is up to the task and provide them with a list of your accomplishments so that these can be mentioned in your letter too.

Participate

This is a tip that should be applied throughout high school, but starting in your final year will be better than nothing. Being an active participant in academic-related activities (like essay competitions), cultural extracurriculars (like joining a debate team or drama club) and school sports will highlight your dedication, interests and contribution to your schools. However, be careful not to spend too much time and effort on extracurriculars – your academic life should take priority.
