Hollywood Directors Support John Boyega Speech
Many Hollywood directors have voiced their support for John Boyega and have stated that they will collaborate with him; after the actor gave a rousing speech at a Black Lives Matter protest in London.
Boyega is perhaps known to most for playing Finn, a stormtrooper who has a change of heart and defects the First Order, ending up joining the Resistance, in Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy.
Having made his debut in JJ Abrams' 2015 Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, the actor received praise for his performance. 2019 saw the actor return for The Rise of Skywalker; which marked his final movie as Finn. Boyega has also starred in films like Detroit, Attack the Block, and Pacific Rim Uprising.
Black Lives Matter
On 3rd June, Boyega attended a Black Lives Matter protest rally in London; and gave a rousing and emotionally charged speech. Addressing his fellow protestors, Boyega spoke; “I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f-ck that!”
The past few days have seen a lot of unrest in America in the wake of the brutal murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer. We refuse to call Derek Chauvin anything less than a murderer. His crime and indifference towards the people of other races caused a lifetime worth of trauma to a family and an entire nation.
Boyega has always been vocal about how he feels about social causes. As it stands, the whole of Hollywood seems to be rallying together to fight racial injustice in America.
The actor was supported by many directors like Jordan Peele, Edgar Wright, Duncan Jones, Phil Lord, Cathy Yan. All of whom said that they would love to work with the actor in the future.
We stand in solidarity with the black community in America and worldwide during these times of distress.
