Harvey Weinstein: Sentenced To 23 Years In Prison, All The Facts That Are Coming Out

By

Harvey Weinstein, after whom the “Weinstein Effect” has been named, is finally going to pay for his heinous crimes. Here’s how the court-session went down yesterday.

Harvey Weinstein

Co-founder of Miramax, Weinstein is a 67 years old former film producer in America.

Miramax has produced many great movies like Shakespeare In Love, The Crying Game, Heavenly Creatures, Pulp Fiction, Flirting With Disaster and Sex, Lies and Videotape.

Weinstein also founded The Weinstein Company and chaired the studio till 2017.

Harvey Weinstein: A Convicted Sex Offender

Allegations of sexual abuse against Weinstein were all over the social media in October 2017, which contributed to the #metoo campaign on a large scale. In 2018, Weinstein was arrested with the charge of rape.

Weinstein’s trial on the case began in January 2020. In February, he was proved guilty of the charges pressed against him.

The final trial of the case was held on March 11th, 2020.

All The Details From Yesterday’s Trial

The trial of Weinstein’s sex-assault and rape case was held under a Manhattan judge, Justice James Burke.

Charges And Testimonies Against Weinstein

Six women were present in the courtroom with allegations of sexual assault, rape, and lousy behaviour against Weinstein:

  1. Jessica Mann
  2. Mimi Haleyi
  3. Annabella Sciorra
  4. Tarale Wulff
  5. Dawn Dunning
  6. Lauren Young

The testimony of all these women was profoundly moving for all who heard it. For them, it was no mere physical or even sexual assault. It had left them emotionally bruised as well, shattering any sense of self-worth and dignity they had.

Haleyi, reduced to tears, stated that she had lost faith and confidence in others as well as in herself.

Weinstein’s Statements In The Courtroom

Weinstein, after being accused of sexual abuse by more than 80 women, had the audacity to say that he was trying to be a better person. Imagine that.

Weinstein even went as far as to say that he had enjoyed his time with the women who were testifying against him today. He was under the impression that the relationship between them was “friendly”.

His denial in the face of such severe charges is hilarious. He went to state that most men are confused about all these “issues”. Did he mean consensual sex?

Weinstein peculiarly admitted his concern about the crisis the country is going through right now.

None of his statements apparently worked in his favour.

Justice James Burke’s Judgement

After hearing all the testimonies, Burke decided that Weinstein should be registered as a sex offender.

Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 23 years of prison. He will serve his time in the Rikers Island Prison.
