Paltrow’s ex-husband, Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin, is the father of her daughter Apple, 20, and son Moses.
Gwyneth Paltrow is providing her followers with an unprecedented glimpse into the life of her son Moses, as she prepares to become an empty-nester.
The actress, 51, responded to a follower’s inquiry regarding whether she had mentally prepared herself to leave off Moses, 18, at college for the first time in a video posted to her Instagram Stories on Friday, Aug. 23.
“Have you dropped both kids off to college yet?” the commenter asked Gwyneth Paltrow. “I’m doing that, I’m not ok.”
“Not yet,” she replied in the candid video, filming herself as she seemingly walked through her backyard. Moses then pops into frame, wearing a white t-shirt and a beach towel around his neck.
“She hasn’t quite gotten rid of me,” he joked, before Paltrow jokingly makes a stunned face into the camera.
In March of this year, the founder of Goop disclosed that her younger child, Apple, 20, had went to college for the first time two years prior.
“On the one hand, incredible sadness,” she told the outlet at the time, reflecting on how she felt about Moses moving out of the house. “A deep sense of impending grief.”
“On the other hand, this is exactly what should be happening,” she said. “Your kids are supposed to be, you know, young adults who can achieve and cope and make connections and be resilient. That’s exactly what you want. And that means they leave the house.”
Moses, who, in addition to Apple, Paltrow shares with her ex-husband and Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin, is scheduled to enroll in Brown University this autumn.
Paltrow is also a stepmother to her spouse Brad Falchuk’s two children, one of whom will be relocating to college this fall, further depleting the household.
“In the fall, Brad [Falchuk] and I have boys that will be going off to university,” Paltrow explained to the Times about Moses and her husband’s son Brody. “It’ll be interesting to see how the morning routine changes with no kids in the house.”
Additionally, the Iron Man actress disclosed that her son adopted a more “relaxed” approach to the college admissions process than her daughter during an interview with Bustle in October.
“Apple was very clear on where she wanted to go, and did everything in her power to make it happen and manifested it,” the mom-of-two told the outlet.
“Moses is like, ‘I don’t know, I like this and I like that, and let’s go back and see this, let’s go back and see that one.’ He’s more relaxed about it. He’s kind of like ‘I’ll be happy wherever; it’s fine,’ which is a great feeling,” she added.
“And it generally seems to work out,” Paltrow finished “What I’ve observed is that sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh, no, this person didn’t get into there, and it seemed like such a great fit.’ “
