House of the Dragon is one of the popular series that has already gained popularity after being a spin-off of the popular series, Game of Thrones. It’s been over a year since the first season of the show concluded. The finale episode of the series concluded the story of the series on a major cliffhanger.
Fans have already waited enough for the show and as season 2 is finally here, we can see how the show will transform. Adding to the excitement, Tom Glynn-Carney (King Aegon II Targaryen) and Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), said in an interview that,
“In the last three episodes of season 1, I presented a character that was entirely black,” said Mitchell. “In season 2, I can’t wait to turn him gray.” If you have watched the last season, you will recall, Mitchell (Targaryen brother) with an eye patch and a sapphire for an eye underneath. Meanwhile, Glynn-Carney’s King Aegon II is an “unpredictable live wire” on the throne. “He’s intensely ambitious and incapable of pursuing the things he sets for himself,” the actor said. But that’s it? No, there is a lot to unfold for the new season of House of Dragon.
What George R.R. Martin has to Say for the New Season?
Fans know House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, which follows a bunch of short stories, telling the formation and end of the Targaryen generation.
Martin said to the fans “The books are the foundation of where we’re going narratively, but things are tweaked,” said Glynn-Carney. “It’s the bible, but it’s also not. The writers of our show are brilliant and should be given credit for their creations. George R. R. Martin should be given credit for his creation. But they’re not the same thing.”
House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 Review
Certainly, the Starks of Winterfell, as witness on Game of Thrones, are similar to Ned. In the first episode of the series, we watched how elder Valeryon son, Jace (Harry Collett) joining Lord Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor) on a chilly tour of The Wall. Stark was determined to serve and that’s why he tells the young man that he’s loyal to Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). However, he was not planning to spare his soldiers so close to winter which, he reminds us, is coming.
Jace scoffs at Stark defending the North from “wildlings and the weather.” The firsts eaosn clearly bought the attention of the viewers and remind them of the Game of Thrones storyline. The visuals were quite similar to the previous series and fans were thrilled when \ Stark tells him it’s not just these threats they and the Night’s Watch defend against. “What then?” Jace asks. “Death,” the Stark lord replies. Never change, Starks of Winterfell.
Francesca Orsi, the executive vice president of drama series at HBO, said”We have a beautiful cast that was assembled by Kate Rhodes [James], and we just are proud of seeing how those scripts are coming alive. The emotionality that the cast is bringing to it is something that we feel confident with and know that we’re going to deliver something special.”
In an interview with Deadline, Emma D’Arcy took over the role following a time jump. For her part in The Crucible in the West End, Alcock responded to rumors that she was returning for season 2 by briefly saying, “No. It’s done.”
Sapochnik directed several popular Game of Thrones episodes, including “Hardhome” and “The Battle of the Bastards.” As per the sources, he will be there as the executive producer.
Though the interview was told about the planning, it was still confusing how after so many years, there were little changes made on the set. The time’s has gradually changed how the story of Targareys required more focus. the involvement of Dragons was not seen in the previous season but fans are hopeful to witness some deadly monestor on this season.
In Westeros, the dragons have changed and we know that during is that in Rhaenyra’s day, there were dragons. By the time Daenerys is born, they’re all dead and forgotten. But the ships are still the same and Scorpions still guard the walls of King’s Landing.
So, what can fans see in the new season? As per the updates, the new season that is going to be released this summer will potentially release some new characters. Ryan Condal, told The Hollywood Reporter, “We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera,” he said. “All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”
Being a series about the powerful Targaryens, it was shocking for the fans that they hadn’t witnessed actual dragons in season 1. But, according to the updates, the second season will potentially bring some new beats to the show. Yes! Condal said, “You’re going to meet five new dragons,”
Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays King Aegon II, also revealed the details of the series and said, ” When asked if we would see King Aegon II ride his dragon, Sunfyre, in season 2, Glynn-Carney responded, “All I can tell you is that we’re training very hard and we are making sure our bodies are in good enough condition for how strenuous season 2 is gonna be.”
In the last episode, we see Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) holding court for the people. Though, he looks similar to his father. because of their similarity in personality, we watched how his generosity attracts the attention of the people in his town.
And then there is the thrilling scene that concludes episode 1 of the series. We watched how Daemon (Matt Smith) asked two vagabonds to sneak into the Red Keep and kill Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). I mean, how can we not expect this to happen? But who are these men? These men are Blood—a disgraced city guardsman—and Cheese—a ratcatcher.
If you take a closer note to Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the story of these men and their brutal murder of Aegon’s son was told by the court jester and Mushroom.
