It’s been a long time coming, but Gentleman Jack is back for a second season, nearly two years after Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) initially strolled onto BBC One in her characteristic head-to-toe black and stole the heart of Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle).

Now, first-look photographs from the upcoming second season have been released, and it appears that there will be plenty more drama on the show this time around.

After finally achieving their happy ending at the end of season 1, Anne Lister and her new wife appear to be enjoying their new life as husband and wife.

Will Anne Lister’s Aunt and Father Be in Season 2?

It has been confirmed that Anne’s father Jeremy Lister (Timothy West) and her cherished Aunt Anne (Gemma Jones) will return for Gentleman Jack season 2.

Assuming the series maintains its current pace and follows Lister’s real-life timeline, there may possibly be two major deaths at the conclusion of season 2, given that both Jeremy and Anna died in the year 1836. Nonetheless, don’t write them off just yet.

“I haven’t made too many decisions yet, but I really don’t want to lose that character,” Wainwright says of Aunt Anne, who appears throughout the novel. “I believe both her aunt and her father are fascinating personalities, and I think the chemistry around the dining table appears to be working rather nicely. There’s a beautiful family comedy in there with the different generations and, of course, Marion [Gemma Whelan], who is absolutely wonderful. So, no, I don’t delete characters until it’s really necessary.”

Gentleman Jack Season 2 Plot

Suranne Jones will reprise her role as Anne Lister, and Sophie Rundle will portray Ann Walker. The first season followed the lives of Anne Lister and Ann Walker for two years, beginning in 1832 and concluding with their self-styled marriage in 1834 at the end of the season.

The first season’s finale concludes with a simple – but moving – scene. Anne Lister and Ann Walker walk out of the church in York as ‘newlyweds,’ having sealed their commitment to one another by receiving the sacrament and privately exchanging rings; the two of them begin joking around about where they should go next in their relationship.

Despite her desire to avoid being too sentimental, Wainwright jokes that she wanted to demonstrate that when people get married, they tend to start bickering quite quickly. Wainwright explains her decision to end the drama on this note with a joke. I thought it was very real and funny at the same time, so it worked for me.”

In addition, I thought it was a pretty accurate portrayal of their relationship, which had always been quite dysfunctional since they made this pledge to one another.” Negotiating the terms of the marriage proved to be extremely tough. Consider all of the external variables, all of the external pressures that were continually conspiring to keep them down. Nobody, except for themselves, wanted them to be together, and this provides us with a wealth of interesting material to examine in the second season of the show.

There was a lot of opposition to them moving in together as soon as people found out they were moving in together. They were affected by it – it was always going to be a difficult marriage, always going to be tricky,” says the author.

In a weird sort of way, they were a match. Ann Walker, despite the fact that Anne Lister appears to be this absolute powerhouse with an iron will, had a real streak of stubbornness – and of course, she possessed a plethora of resources. So there was a really intriguing interaction between them, as well as a pretty interesting power dynamic between them, which I’m really looking forward to exploring a little bit more thoroughly.”

Unlike season 1, which took us to the Danish royal court, season 2 may take us to Europe and the Alps. After all, Anne Lister was a passionate traveler and mountaineer who was determined to share her enthusiasm with Ann Walker when she met her.

According to Wainwright, “after their self-styled wedding ceremony in York, they started touring.” In the beginning, they traveled to North Yorkshire, and then they traveled to Geneva, where they spent some time strolling around the foothills of Mount Blanc. Because of inclement weather, the duo decided to tour France and pay a visit to the capital city of Paris instead.
