Final Fantasy is one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. Developed and owned by Square Enix, this game has a huge fanbase. The first game was released in 1987, followed by several other installments of one of the most recognized franchises of all time.
On to Final Fantasy VII! This game was released 2 decades ago! I wasn’t around 2 decades ago! The game has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide! An impressive feat for a game that old, don’t you think?
Long-Awaited Remake
Since 2005, a lot of fans requested for a remake of this game. It took 10 years for Square Enix to announce the project. They have taken their sweet time and let’s hope this game is worth the wait!
The game is set to release for PS4 this year and on other installments the next year. The major turn off? The game isn’t released as one installment but as parts.
Release
The game is set to release on the 10th of April, 2020. Can’t wait to get my hands on this classic! Bad news for gamers who own Xbox or PC: The game will be released in 2021.
Gameplay
After playing the demo for a while, I can certainly say that Square Enix has taken a gamble. However, this gamble seems to have favored Square Enix as the game is brilliant. The combat system is not a typical ATB type but is a mixture of different combat systems from other games.
Consequently, the game feels odd at first but it is certainly fun when you understand the strategic approach to the game.
Characters
The game features the same characters from the original Final Fantasy VII. However, the game features only 4 of the playable quarters in the first part of the game.
Verdict
After hours of gameplay, I conclude by saying that the game looks brilliant. A potential game of the year contender, in my view. Splitting the game seems illogical but it might not be. The game is said to be much bigger than the original 1997 game. The combat might need a little getting-used-to but it certainly is amazing. I can’t wait to get my hands on the game!
