Outhwaited joined the BBC soap in 1998. It was planned for just three months but it went on for 3 years. She remembered that she thought it was just another job at that time. Because at that time there was a whole career waiting for her to continue. However, she stayed in it and became a very important part of many of the soap’s biggest stories.

At last, she recently returned to the EastEnders show as Legendary Mel Owen. But it was only for a short term role. The character meets her end when hit by a vehicle. Besides, she told that it was much harder to leave the show for the second time. She opened her mind about that time when paparazzi regularly followed her. She remembers it as a hard part when you feel like someone is always spying into our personal life.
