Does Aquaman 2 Have a Post Credit Scene? What to Expect After the Credits?

We explore the post-credits scene for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in the last film in the DC Extended Universe. It wasn’t the initial plan for the 2018 Aquaman sequel to wrap up the DCEU, but that’s exactly what happened.

Warner Bros. Discovery hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to head a new film subsidiary named DC Studios after numerous attempts to turn things around. Gunn and Safran revealed in January that the DCEU would be relaunched as the new DC Universe. Gunn’s Superman: Legacy will be the first DC Universe film to be released on the big screen in 2025.

Although it’s great to think about a more cohesive DCU, Gunn and Safran’s announcement left the remaining DCEU films—Shazam! Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Fury of the Gods—all in an odd location. James Wan, the director of the Aquaman trilogy, said that Aquaman 2 changed as a result of the DCU’s new vision, just as The Flash did.

We now talk about the Aquaman 2 post-credits scene and explain what it means for the franchise, even though it didn’t seem plausible that the conclusion of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom would set anything up for the future given the situation of the DCEU/DCU.

Is There a Post-credit Scene in Aquaman 2?

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has one credits scene, same like the first movie. After the stylized credits have concluded but before the scroll starts, the scenario reaches the mid-credits point. Neither an extra sequence nor an audio tag are present at the very end of the Aquaman 2 credits. Additionally, there isn’t a text screen indicating a character’s return, like in Marvel Studios films.

We can confirm that the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom credits scene doesn’t serve any future setup, but we’ll explain what it contains below to avoid giving away anything to viewers who haven’t watched the film.

Rather, it gives a final punchline before the credits roll and carries on a joke from the film. Therefore, aside from completionists, the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom credits scene isn’t worth waiting for.

What Happens During the Credits Scene of Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom?

Not long after a waitress serves Orm (Patrick Wilson) his first cheeseburger, the Aquaman 2 credits roll. He opens his burger and places it on the bread after catching a cockroach in his hand as it crawls over his table in the credits scene.

Orm then bites into the burger, which now has a cockroach on it, and pulls a face as though he’s enjoying it even more.

The credits scene for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a reference to the scene where Orm and Arthur are discussing the delights of the surface world while strolling through the jungle on Devil’s Deep earlier in the film. In typical elder brother behavior, Arthur deceives Orm into consuming a cockroach by claiming that people on the surface frequently consume such creatures.

To Arthur’s joy, Orm gives it a try and finds it appealing. A last punchline in the Aquaman 2 credits scene references a previous joke and serves as a punctuation mark for the film and the DCEU as a whole.

Why the Post-Credits Scene in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Was So Divisive?

The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom post-credits sequence appeared to be a fairly harmless scene on the surface, but it caused controversy among viewers for two main reasons.

First of all, a lot of people went into the film expecting a message that would properly conclude the DCEU narrative, especially because rumors that the film had been altered were rampant before to the release of Aquaman 2.

Those who had been hoping for some meaningful closure were therefore incensed that the movie’s last scene was an ultimately pointless joke, as they received the exact opposite.

Second, there were expectations that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom would give away further information about the next DC Universe. This might have been through a post-credits scene that served as a teaser or trailer for DC’s new on-screen era, or it could have revealed that Jason Momoa would continue to be the DCU Aquaman casting.

The genre has a history of superhero films ending with a teaser for a follow-up, so these expectations weren’t wholly unrealistic, but they also turned out to be false in the end, giving viewers a cockroach humor rather than a glimpse of the future.

Do the Credits of Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom Hint at the DCU Relaunch?

does aquaman 2 have a post credit scene

Jason Momoa’s Aquaman future, which in and of itself establishes the framework for Gunn and Safran’s DCU, is obviously not hinted at in the Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom credits scene. The DCU reset begins with the Aquaman 2 credits scene, which doesn’t set anything up.

There are no untapped future teases, such as the sequence in the Black Adam credits where Henry Cavill reprises his role as Superman, only for Gunn to reveal a few months later that he would be recasting the part. As a result, the DCEU has one fewer loose end that the DCU will never close.

Of course, if a third film was approved, there were still a lot of possible plot points for Momoa’s Aquaman to explore. Despite the fact that Orm and Arthur were able to patch things up, Black Manta’s uncertain destiny might have led to his return as either a villain or a comrade to help defeat another villain.

However, Aquaman 3 is probably never going to materialize because of the low box office predictions for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Therefore, the fact that Aquaman 2 didn’t have a credits scene hinting at anything for the future is for the best.

Rather, once Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom formally ended the DCEU, the DCU can relaunch the universe with as clean a slate as possible.
