According to a study by Caltech and UCLA experts, there was seismic activity caused by the 73,000 people that attended Taylor Swift‘s August 2023 performance at SoFi Stadium.

Similar reports claimed that last year’s seismic activity at her July tour stop at Seattle’s Lumen Field was “equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.”

In a report that was released on Wednesday, the researchers shared their findings. The scholarly article, Shake to the Beat: Investigating the Seismic Signals and Stadium Response of Concerts and Music Fans, asserted that “distinct harmonic tremors” were produced by audience movement rather than by the music itself.

The researchers concentrated especially on the fifth night of Swift’s six-night engagement at SoFi Stadium, according to the Los Angeles Times. Motion sensors were placed more than five and a half miles away from the event.

After then, the data was examined using graphs that showed the frequencies of the wave lengths. Shake It Off, Swift’s most popular song, predictably had the highest local magnitude (0.851). Love Story’s loudness was also noteworthy.

In addition to examining the “concert tremors” brought on by previous performances by Beyoncé, Metallica, and Morgan Wallen at the same location, the scientists contrasted the Swift shows.
