The director of Deadpool & Wolverine, who will be 56 years old on Tuesday, July 23, talks exclusively in interview about the time he witnessed the Kansas City Chiefs play the New York Jets with Taylor Swift and the stars of his most recent film, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
“I’ll tell you this, watching a football game with Taylor is different than just watching a football game,” he tells PEOPLE at the NYC premiere of the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film on Monday, July 22.
“Yeah, the uptick in recognizability [that] came about at that football game… [I] was not counting on that,” he admits. “Was not counting on it at all.”
“I’m definitely going to forget a lot of football games that I’ve watched in my life, not that one,” the Night at the Museum director concludes of the Oct. 1, 2023 game.
The comments made by Levy come about ten months after he witnessed the Chiefs defeat the Jets by a score of 23-20. “All future Sunday nights are ruined,” the director said on his Instagram Stories at the time, referring to every Sunday night in the future.
Levy continued by saying, “It would appear that there was also a football game played last night,” while he was holding a photograph of Blake Lively, 36, Taylor Swift, 34, Ryan Reynolds, and Hugh Jackman. Ryan Reynolds Reveals His Favorite Taylor Swift Song—and You Won’t Be Disappointed
Moreover, he included a picture of himself smiling with Reynolds, 47, and Jackman, 55, while they were attending the game, and he attributed the photograph to Swift.
“If only my co-workers and I liked each other more. Photo Cred @taylorswift,” he joked in the caption.
It was previously mentioned by Levy that one of the benefits of his “bromance” with Reynolds is the opportunity to hang out with Swift, who is a friend of the actor.
Following the Deadpool and Wolverine trio’s attendance at the game, Levy gave an interview to PEOPLE later that month, during which he discussed the singer and stated, “She’s a very fun hang.”
A conversation between Levy and PEOPLE also took place on his friendship with Jackman and Reynolds.
“It’s all thanks to Hugh,” Levy said, noting that he first met Jackman after directing him in the film Real Steel in 2011. “He predicted this 11 years ago. I vividly remember him saying, ‘I’m friends with this guy Ryan Reynolds, and if you ever meet, you guys are going to never stop working together again.’ “
“I haven’t made a truly close friend since college,” Levy said of his Free Guy and The Adam Project collaborator.
“Men don’t tend to make a lot of friends. But Hugh and Ryan happen to be the two guys that I talk about real life s— with. We get together as husbands and guys and dads. And now we get to work together, which has been an absolute blast”.
