The Coronavirus outbreak first occurred last year in December. The first detected case of the virus was in Wuhan province of China. As of today it has spread to several countries of the world and taken the lives of thousands of people.

The World Health Organisation(WHO) has not yet declared it a pandemic. However, the organisation has issued notice to take the virus seriously.

What Is The Coronavirus (CoV)?

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. The coronaviruses include Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

Scientists identified a novel coronavirus (nCoV). The virus is a new strain. It had not been previously identified in humans. It is now known as CoViD-19, which stands for Corona Virus Disease, 2019.

Coronaviruses are zoonotic. This means that transmissi between animals and people. Civet cats spread the SARS-CoV to humans and dromedary camels transferred MERS-CoV to humans. A number of known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.

Common symptoms of the infection include respiratory symptoms, cough, fever, shortness of breath and difficulties in breathing. In more severe cases, it can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and can also lead to death.

With the current outbreak, it is advisable to look out for these symptoms.

What Can You Do?

Scientists have not identified a cure for the virus as of now. Although scientists are working relentlessly, a treatment still seems far.

The most important step is prevention, as the saying goes -prevention is better than cure. Hygiene must be given the most importance- washing hands frequently, use of sanitizers, use of mask if sick or taking care of an infected person- are some steps.

WHO Comes Hard Saying To Take The Virus Seriously

In a recent statement, the WHO chief has stressed that it is “time to act” against the Coronavirus. As the toll of infected reached 100,000, the apex health organisation has asked the world leaders to put on their best foot.

As such, the US has sanctioned 8 billion USD towards the prevention of the virus. Moreover, Russia, that has seen a few cases till now has sealed its borders with China. This has hampered the tourism of the region.

Corona Virus

The outbreak of the virus has caused the economy to slow down with several sectors reaching a slump. If a cure is not discovered soon enough, the outcomes will be catastrophic.
