What happens in Coraline 2? | Plot of Coraline 2
In Coraline 2, an Eleven-year-old Coraline Jones and her parents, Mel and Charlie, reach into a very old mansion that has been divided up. It is now known by the name, Pink Palace Apartments. As most of the time, her parents are busy completing their gardening catalog, so mostly Coraline is ignored by them. Then Coraline meets the landlady’s grandson names, Wyborne “Wybie” Lovat, and the cutest Black Cat who follows him all around.
After some time Wybie leaves Coraline with a button-eyed rag doll which he created in his grandmother’s trunk that always resembles her. After some time, Coraline discovers a small door in the living room that is completely bricked up and can only be unlocked with the help of a button-shaped key.
On that night, a mouse gives guidance to Coraline through the door. Moreover, Coraline meets her Other Mother and Other Father, who have button-eyed doppelgangers that look more attentive and caring.
Later, Coraline goes to bed for a calm sleep and gets up back in the real world. However, Wybie tells Coraline about his grandmother’s twin sisters who disappeared in the house when they were children. Coraline’s neighbors, Mr. Bobinsky, who is an energetic Russian gymnast who also runs a mouse circus, and retired burlesque actresses miss Spink and Forcible, warns her about the door and about the danger.
Although, Coraline visits the Other World for the second or third time. She was accompanied by the Other Wybie and there she is entertained by the Other Bobinsky and the mouse circus, and the Other Spink and Forcible. In this situation, Coraline also kills the Black Cat, who is able to traverse the two different worlds and can easily speak in the Other World. Also, the Other Mother invites Coraline to stay in the Other World forever but the condition is that she should have buttons sewn over her eyes.
Coraline felt horrified and goes to bed but the next morning, she finds herself in another world. When Coraline says to go back home, the Other Mother shows her aggressive behavior to her and finally imprisons Coraline in a mirror. In the mirror, Coraline meets the ghosts of the Other Mother’s child victims, including Wybie’s great aunt. The spirits show that the Other Mother, who is also known by the name “Beldam,” used the same doll that Coraline had to spy on them.
She takes benefit of their sadness and luring them into the Other World. When they agreed to sew buttons on their eyes, then the Beldam “ate up” their lives and traps their souls. Coraline promises to free all of them by searching their eyes. The Other Wybie frees Coraline from the mirror and helps her to run back to the real world. Coraline finds her missing parents, probably feeling that they have been kidnapped by the Beldam. For Bad/lost things, Miss Spink and Miss Forcible give Coraline an adder stone. That night, she returns to the Other World with the Cat.
At this place, she offers a game to the Beldam- if she can easily find the ghosts’ eyes and her parents, then they will all go free; if not able to find, then she will remain in the Other World and let the Other Mother sew buttons over her eyes. Coraline goes into the hostile Other World and uses the stone to find the children’s eyes. With the help of each eye she collects part of the Other World then breaks until only the living room is left.
Coraline sees the Beldam in her natural and real form that looks like a metallic skeletal-humanoid arachnid creature with needle-like hands. She gets a warning that in case she wins, the Beldam will never allow her to go.
Coraline pushes the Beldam into an unlock portal and finds her parents who are trapped in a snow globe. Coraline throws the Cat at the Beldam, then the Cat claws out her button eyes and finally blinding her. Coraline escapes through the door and tries to close and lock it with the help of the ghosts.
Coraline’s parents come into the real world with no bad memory of what happened to them. That night, the ghost children come in Coraline’s dream to thank her for giving them freedom. They also warn her about the Beldam that as long as she is alive, she will never stop searching for the key.
Coraline decides to drop it down into an old well near her home. But before any action, the Beldam’s severed hand attacks on her. Wybie arrives there and, after a long struggle, smashes the hand with the help of a stone. Coraline and Wybie throw the key and shattered their hand into the well and at last seal it completely.
Very soon, Coraline and her parents, who have finished their catalog, host a garden party for their neighbors, friends, and relatives. Wybie introduces his grandmother, Mrs. Lovat, to Coraline and her parents. Coraline starts telling her complete story. The Black Cat moves behind the Pink Palace signpost and disappears before the screen looks black.
